Is it normal for my 2015 Vauxhall Corsa Sting to be burning so much oil?
So in January this year I bought a brand new, new model vauxhall corsa sting! I used to be a plumber and I was driving from Belfast to Lurgan everyday building up the miles in the car and now it has 12,500 miles (roughly). Yesterday my 'CHANGE OIL' Warning light came on the dash so i dipped it and its at the very bottom. I'm going to phone Charles Hurst tomorrow and tell them, but before that I want to know if anyone else knows why. I do know some things about cars and know this isn't right! My sisters honda jazz hasn't had the oil changed in 3 years and its still up at the top and it has done roughly the same miles maybe more because i drove it too!
Maybe it wasn't filled up properly to start with. Although things like that don't seem to cause a problem much I still check all the basics every month to be safe.
So… You have covered 12,500 miles since January… And wonder why the oil wants topping up?
Are you for real? Needing the oil 'Topped up' and 'Changed' are two different things. The electronics in the car have obviously decided that considering the mileage and type of use an oil change is necessary… Surely not unreasonable?
Your dealer will have little sympathy on a warranty claim if you have simply neglected to 'top up' the oil.
A litre / half of oil (the probable difference between low and high on the dipstick) is hardly a big deal… Just top it up. Before damage happens.
I top up my oil approximately once every two months but I have a reminder on my calendar to check it every month just in case. An oil filter can come loose, you could hit a bump in the road, or as you say the car can just burn oil. I've had a couple of bad experiences when I started driving and didn't really understand how important it was to keep the car maintained regularly. As a result I had to completely remove, repair and reinstall two engines. It's hard work, takes a lot of time and it's just easier to keep on top of things. My wife then put too much oil in a Zafira and I had to do it all again. Apparently too much oil can be as bad as not enough oil.
To only have to change your oil once in nine months is great.
Oil, water and cam belts should always be kept an eye on. They're the things that will cost you a lot of time or money when your engine fails, not to mention lost earnings if you can't get a replacement car. Everything else is minor. Learn by my mistakes, I'm so fed up of fixing cars.
- Indian people: what does sting on a car steering wheel mean? I work for honda and I see some indian people come in with red and yellow sting on the steering wheel.
- Honda bf5 1997 oil light alwasy on is that normal? I have a bought secondhand Honda bf5 1997. No book or anything, when engine running oil light is stays on which is the green. It that normal? Regards.
- Oil Change: Honda Motor Oil Vs Generic oil, does it make a difference? I have been getting oil changes with Honda motor oil for 15 years on my 2002 civic that now has 132K miles. If I switch to a generic $10 oil change garage shop will it still be ok? I know the Honda filters are better then the cheapest generic ones but how about the actual motor oil?
- 97 Honda Civic is burning oil or leaking oil from this bolt? It has oil building up around the bolt, not a lot but enough that you notice it right at first glance the others are dry what should i do? Unscrew and check the O ring or what? I'm not a car guy unfortunately. It has been burning oil recently it probably burns a quart every 3-6 weeks min or 5-9weeks max. Unless its just leaking somewhere, and this little bolt guy is my first suspect.
