Is the stereo unit just bad?

I have a 93 honda del sol si, have a kenwood kdc258u and up until recently it has been fine. For the past few months it has turned on and off randomly and will take a day or so to come back on, and then a few days ago its like it called it quits, being an electrician I know where to look for problems.

Checked fuse under dash- Gets power
Checked fuse under hood- All good there
Checked fuse on back of Stereo - Still Good
Checked for ground continuity- Have continuity
Checked for 12v output from switched and constant battery connections - Have 12v at both splices and at the connector

I even added a ground from the back of the din on the unit to the chasis to see if it was a grounding problem. I even bent the connector fittings so that I'm certain the connection is solid. Now earlier I was certain its a bad stereo and needs to be replaced but then I decided to take the disconnected head unit into a stereo store for a final opinion and the guy said he plugged it in and it worked fine (out of the room of course) so either he is lying or there's something else that I'm missing on diagnosing.

What do you think? Should i just bag it and get a new one, or is there another easy thing to check.

Remove it and examine the stereo on your workbench where your power supply and other components are known to be good. Take a look at your antenna first, to make sure it's still on the car and that it is connected to the stereo.

Owning a car with a spanish name can make it hard to install a fat stereo. It's to keep the mexicans from making too much noise in america.

  • I pissed my dad off really bad should I just sell the car? When I was 3 I got ran over sued the insurance and got a 34k settlement that I get when I turn 21 I turned 21 a month ago got the money and went out and bought a green 1968 Pontiac Firebird with a swapped 428 automatic for 12k it's a bad ride but my dad is so pissed I didn't get a Nissan Altima or a Honda or something practical should I just sell it?
  • Will a Honda head unit fit in a Mitsubishi? I have a 2003 Mitsubishi Galant. I recently purchased a Pioneer aftermarket head unit off of Amazon (1 DIN) and all the installation kits that I see at Pepboys, Autozone, etc are all for cars of makes with Honda/Acura, General Motors, etc. Will a Honda (same year) single DIN installation kit fit in my 03 galant? Or do I have to get a specific fitment for my car?
  • 03 Honda Crv No AC: need freon or blown AC unit? Googled and I guess there's a huge problem with the AC unit in the 03 CRVS to explode and send fragments through the system, thus causing it to not work. Well my AC in my crv does not work, bought it from a used lot in the winter not knowing. When I turn the AC on it does not make any weird noises or anything, it just blows out warm air. It doesn't blow steaming hot but fan hot, if that makes sense. Could it just need a freon charge or could the system be kerput?
  • Why won't my head unit turn on? I have a 1995 Honda Civic Hathcback. I just replaced my alternator and after i did that, my head unit will no longer turn on. The head unit itself still works, just not in my car, and none of my fuses are blown. My cigarette outlet still works and its on the same fuse as my head unit, which doesn't work. I didn't know if this was a common problem people have, but I can't figure out what's wrong with it.
