Is there a such thing as most reliable car?

Why toyota and honda?

Ford Taurus can endure anything

Sure, reliability, dependability and initial quality ratings are calculated every year for all automakers. Lexis has been #1 in all categories for many years running. And yes, both Toyota and Honda are above the industry average as well.

My Toyota had the worst reliability of anything i have owned for many years.

There's always comparison of best and worst. It's all relative. Most reliable are usually best in the long run. Other cars break down at a higher rate.

It varies from year to year.

Here is the UK list (more urban driving stress than in the US)

Why some are good? They don't use cheap components, especially electrics. These the things that tend to fail early.

My old Honda had a transmission failure but nothing else failed.

Yeah… Most electrics. Telsa… All they need is TIRES when they wear down.

NO. All c*** out, all hard to fix. Some just easier/simpler and more reliable. Newer, more complicated does not = reliable.

Even Model "T"s were not reliable. They needed overhauls after 20K, just Very Easy To overhaul, can do it in one afternoon. Shoe leather worked for bearings! The transmission bands wore out often and are a pain to replace Early V8 Flathead Fords wore out prematurely due to oil starvation; even when that fixed; valves very hard to remove/reinsert.

A mechanic of 50 year, to me it normally is the owner driver. I never repair my vehicles as I do not treat them like Sh-t and are gentle on them. Treat them like a lady and they will not ***** you. Some people always break or screw their car. They are a type, like idiot druggies they are just knobs. So treat your car well and it will treat you well.
