Do you have to have a Title to register a 1988 motorcycle in South Carolina?

Someone wants to trade a 1988 Honda Rebel for my truck with a blown motor. They don't have a title but have a bill of sale is that enough for me to register in in SC? They live in Ga.

Ss

NO… Don't EVER buy anything without a title, you'll just be throwing your money away because you won't ever be able to register it.

HOW DO YOU KNOW ITS NOT STOLEN?

Probably so.

In Georgia, vehicles prior to 1985 do not need titles, and GA won't issue them. I believe South Carolina is the same. A call to the DMV would let you know!

Tell your "someone," "We have a deal IF YOU FURNISH A GOOD TITLE" and be certain it is in his name.

Who ever has that title owns that bike. It is only good for parting out. You will never be able to license it.

He has "A" Bill of sale. Meaning he could have printed that out on his computer printer. Or it is scribbled on a piece of paper with a pen. Both are a bill of sale and both also are good as toilet paper.
So yeah, the title is the government recognition of who owns the bike.

So the guy with the bike wants to give you Nothing for your truck(because he does not own the bike) If anything you will get stolen property. YOU get nailed for being in possession of stolen property. They take the bike away from you and you got NOTHING. And your truck is GONE. The address the guy gave you as his, does not exist so you will never find it. You lose twice.

. Even with a blown motor, he will want the title papers(which is interesting) considering he did not get it for the bike.[BUT HE KNOWS A BILL OF SALE IS NOT WORTH "SchiT" ]
Putting in a motor takes a few hours and it is driveable. It is plated and gone.
. A vehicle of ANY YEAR (ANYWHERE) has title papers accompanying that vehicle. This is your proof that you "OWN IT" and you can get it insured and plated.
. "Every cop when they stop you ask for License and Registration."
THERE's NO EXCEPTION ON THAT.

No

You need the title to register a vehicle anywhere.
