Has anyone registered a motorcycle in California using the Application for Paperless Title form?
I'm looking to buy a an old 1980 Honda C70 on Craigslist and the the seller does not have the title. I'm not entirely worried about the bike being stolen and will have the VIN checked before purchase. However there's no title and we will be using this form -http://www.dmv.ca.gov/forms/reg/reg227.pdf with a Bill of Sale. Has anyone actually ever done this? I don't wan to purchase the bike, only to find that there's some requirement to obtain the title with this form…
If they do not have the title, and do not want to go through the trouble it takes to provide a title, then consider the bike not theirs to sell. Don't buy it
Get a bill of sale and go to the tag agency and apply for a lost title. Problem solved! Buy it!
Paperless title has nothing to do with no title. It's merely a valid title being kept on line at a site rather than handed to you in printed form.
Even with the paperless title, you can go to the web page and print it out to sell your vehicle.
If the selerl doesn't give you a title at the point of sale, you have bought nothing. Bill of sale is worthless. I can write you a bill of sale for a brand new Mercedes if you like.
DMV can answer all of your questions, suggest that you cut out all the middle people and call them direct for the correct thing to do.
I can't get a human being on the phone at any DMV in California for the life of me. I have tried to contact them but can't.
- Why do motorcycle regulators have prop 65 California cancer warnings? I just ordered a regulator for my honda cbr600rr and I noticed something weird, some of them from all kinds of different companies have the california prop 65 cancer warning, some don't, some say "may" have chemicals that cause cancer, some say "do" have them? What's really going on? So some companies just not put the label up but it still applies? Are some made differently?

And I live in Wisconsin as well.
- How to register a motorcycle that hasn't been registered in 8 years? I have a 1985 Honda Rebel 250 that was last registered in 2006 in WA. I have the Title and the previous buyer has signed the required fields. Date of Delivery shows 2006… What is the best way to get this registered in CA? Can I avoid all of the back fees? Is it out of the system?
