Is a Honda CB300F a good starter bike?

Just purchased a 2017 Honda CB300F with 300 miles on it. Never rode a motorcycle before and the biggest dirt bike i have driven was a Honda 125.think i will Have trouble with this bike? Still have to take my permit test too

You can start at 600cc or 1000cc if you want. Just need to be carefull in begginning, control the aceleration, don't acelerate too much until you get trust on what you are doing… Take the roads in morning to practice without the traffic.

If you live in the USA take a MSF (Motorcycle Safety Foundation)course. It will hopefully teach you a FEW things about riding on the streets, it's different than the dirt.

A MSF class might save you from wrecking it.

A 300cc bike is more than adequate for a novice and can still be a ticket to the graveyard in the wrong hands so get proper training before getting out on the road.

If you rode dirt, you Have ridden motorcycles.

Excellent choice, a 125 is really too small for streets. If you have hesitations, spend $400 more for an MSF class. Good investment, you might get a CC class and Pell grant so cost to you is $50. Epidermis is $$.

EDIT: A Middle sized Honda, is a 600-650. A mid sized Harley is 88 cubic inch. I dare anyone to ride a 300 coast to coast like in "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance." You will pull over a Lot. Big trucks will Suck you off the road. Just because a 125 and bigger is "legal" for freeway does NOT make it any good for it for Very Long.

I started on a moped, then Honda 50, 70, and 90 ; then a 650cc Triumph. No classes, then, but I learned. Bigger bikes are actually safer.

A good starter bike is a 50cc. A second motorcycle is a 125.
Your Honda is a middleweight motorcycle, capable of cruising coast to coast on the Interstates.

Ah… A dirt bike *IS* a motorcycle. GOD! You probably have experience in the streets, in a car. You are not a total noob. But you need to remember things when riding.

1. You are a cockroach, no one likes you. 95% of people will not see you. 4.95% of people will avoid you. That 0.05% -- they see you and want to hit you. They will aim at you and try to run you off the road.

2. Others tell you to do stuff to get seen -- bright colors, flashy lights. IMHO, bad -- if people can see you, they can see you and aim at you. I'm a cockroach, I don't want people to see me. I survived on the streets by being unseen while I watch and avoid them. In over 50 years I never crashed. (slow speed drops is something else.)

Other than that depends on how you plan to ride. Most people ride for fun. I ride to be not in a cage.

A moped, a mini bike, or a dirt bike are all good starter bikes. If you've had them its in the blood. For the street a 300 cc is big enough to see what it feels like avoiding automobiles from running over you. Avoid getting on freeways or a heavy traffic high ways. You have to be awear of your seroundigs 360 degrees around you while riding. Remember better late than never. Use those mirrors while changing lanes, never trust an automobile driver with their blinking lights on or off. Slow down on intersec tions. Always be defensive. I'm 75 years old have had lots of two wheelers diferent kinds different sizes since my young age of 13, Finally gave up my 2000 Goldwing for my quarter horse in 2015 he is safer to ride. There are too many automobils on the road this days. This are just some words of caution ride safe.

Nice first street bike. Do a few laps around the Safeway parking lot trying to weave between every third space. Nice bike for a drivers test.
