Motorcycle exhaust gasket need replaced?

I just put anew aftermarket exhaust on my 2004 Honda Shadow Aero 750 (vt750c) I replaced the exhaust gaskets. I have rode it twice since and noticed a leak where the front exhaust bolts to the head. The question is when I take the exhaust back off and put it back on to try and fix the leak will the new gasket still be good or should I replace it?

It depends on the composition of the gasket and how chewed up it is. Like, it's a good idea to re-torque hot parts a coupla times after the bike's been ridden, dude. Didja do that? Do you have a shop manual with the torque values? Do you own a decent torque wrench? (CDI makes good ones.) Just sayin', dude.

Why take the exhaust back off?
Torque the nuts down a little and a little bit of exhaust leak isn't terrible.

The gasket is a crush copper gasket - are you sure you got the old one off - they all but disappear after they have been installed a while.

You will have to examine the gasket when you remove it.

However, the copper exhaust gaskets used in most bike are crush gaskets and are one use only. I highly recommend that you get new gaskets.

Also, you need to re-torque those nuts after your first ride. They tend to loosen up a bit.

It could just be that the heat has caused the nuts to back off a touch, when tightening bolts like this the best approach is to alternate between the them rather than one at a time so that it seats properly.

Never re use a copper crush washer

Correct torque needed on most bolts on a modern engine & as others have said retighten after warmup.
If you haven't already done so - get a manual Haimes or Clymer OK & a decent torque wrench if you plan t owork on your bike properly.
