Motorcycle starter over heated starter and only the solenoid clicked so i rebuilt the starter n tested it with a battery n it worked fine?
Put it back in bike and again only the solenoid clicks… Is there a fuse for the starter or a relay i may have blown?
1988 honda hurricaine 1000F
i'm ready to hang it up but the bike runs so good when it runs.
i ran out of gas n kept trying to start it till battery was dead and that is how it got this way. Please and thank-you
Added (1). starter works fine when hooked up to a battery off the bike.
what gives?
Put the bike back together and jump the starter solenoid.
The battery (+) cable goes to the solenoid.
The other terminal of the solenoid goes to the starter motor.
Touch the 2 large terminals of the solenoid at the same time with a large screw driver.
It the starter motor struggles to crank the engine, the bike's battery is probably dead.
Connect a car battery to your bike's battery with jumper cables (car not running) and try to start the bike with the start button.
If everything works as normal, replace your bike's battery.
Don't bother charging it.
When a motorcycle battery goes dead, it rarely will come back to life with a charge.
If the solenoid still just clicks while using a car battery, replace the solenoid.
Ever thought the BATTERY was DEAD?
PS- Motorcycle batteries have a short life-span.
Have yours 'load-tested' at a shop that can do motorcycle batteries.
Sounds like your battery doesn't have enough amps to crank the engine. Try a new battery. Testing a starter on a bench doesn't mean under load on the bike it has enough power to crank it.
Ok on a different battery? Under Load? If it spins without load, this is inconclusive.
If it cranks Ok under load, different battery, then battery in bike is toast.
Solenoid, etc, are Obviously OK.
Right. You can rebuild a starter but you don't know what a multimeter is.
The starter is gone. It works fine with no load but when you put it in the bike it get a load trying to turn the engine
Agree that the bike's battery may be the problem. Also, you don't mention any electrical system maintenance whatsoever, so apparently there has been none. Clean all of the ground connections: nuts, bolts, washers, engine case, and frame with scotchbrite. REPLACE the large ground wire that goes from batt. Neg. To ground, and the large red wire that goes from batt. Pos. To the solenoid. Those cables' crimped ring terminals can corrode internally.
Also, it won't hurt to take the starter apart and clean and lubricate the bearings and planetary assembly. (Once every 30 years is not too often, dude.) Check the brush lengths and armature resistances per the shop manual.
Also, there's a starter relay. Once again, clean the connections to the relay. Have you checked to see if the solenoid's getting 12-14 volts from the relay? Gotta $5.99 DMM? Know how to use it?
It's amazing how when you clean and lubricate and check stuff and the components are all good and all of the electrical connections are clean and tight and you put it all back together a miracle occurs and it works.
- I rebuilt my honda eu3000is carb, and now it smoke a few minutes after starting. It has only 50 hours or so? I cleaned out some green slime from the carb bowl, and cleaned out the main jet. Then, put it all back together. Did I miss something in the re-assembly? It runs good, just smokes.
- How much to fix my starter solenoid? I have a 2008 Honda Civic EX. Pretty sure the contacts on the starter solenoid are worn out. I'm gonna have to go to a mechanic so approximately how much would it cost to get this fixed? If it's just the solenoid, can the contacts just be fixed on the part, or should the whole starter be replaced?
- Car ran fine then wouldn't start, got a jump, now everything is fine again. What happened? '03 Honda Civic. Last 30 mins of work I sat in my car with the A/C on full blast and radio on, like I do everyday (and of course the car is running). I stopped at Subway after work. The car was parked for 10 mins. After the car would not start but the radio and dash board lights would come on, but it would not crank. Got a jump from AAA. Afterwards Auto Zone tested the battery and alternator, both passed. I has been a week now and no problems. What the heck could have happened?
- 2009 honda civic si heated seats? So I bought this car a few weeks ago and I was putting in floor lights and noticed I was wired for heated seats but I don't have a button or anything to turn them on? Is it like an automatic thing or what
