Should i buy a bigger cc bike?

Ok so i was looking at the honda crf250l but my dad says i should buy the xr650l because i will be at like 7 thousand rpm going 100kpm but i was wondering i will be riding 65% dirt 35% road and is my dad right but i was also thinking the 250 has 14 or 16 i can't remember horsepower so i seen that alot of people buy the power 1 kit wich is this http://soloracer.com/crf250lfmfpkg.html wich brings the horsepower up to 24 and also you an remove a few pounds with buying diffrent batteries and stuff so should i buy the crf for 5k and put about $750 into it or should i buy the 650
p.s i also just really like the look of the 250 and i also don't think i need a 650 but please leave your 2 cents

Says the CRF250L does 84 mph, peaks 23 bhp at 8500 rpm… Ah! Found: http://crfsonly.com/howto/gearing/motorcycle-gearing-calculator.php The CRR250L red lines at 10,000 rpm, you will be *loafing* doing about 75% red line at 75 mph. At 70kph, 45 mph, 4572rpm. At 45 mph in 6th you will have to shift 3 gears down, to 3rd, to get decent acceleration.

Is you dad afraid to ride a bike the way it was designed to do? Does he want you riding the freeways at 90-100 mph? Sorry, but your father wants you to ride what HE wanted to ride when he was a kid. Tell he that you prefer agility to straight line speed.

Either get a 250 or a 450 just depends on how much power you want.

YOU buy bigger when YOU WANT bigger.
Your Dad isn't riding the F-ing bike.

Part of the price you pay for the bigger engine is extra weight and a sacrifice of handling.

Depends what's more important to you, power or handling.

Isn't there something in between?

No, those are way too powerful for a beginner baby like you! The best bike would be an xr50, but even that might be too powerful for you. You might need to detune it!

  • My wife's but is too big for the backseat of of my Honda Rebel 250? How to make a bigger backseat? My wife finds the backseat of my 2006 Rebel uncomfortably small. I've searched the internet to see if they make a larger option, but I haven't found anything. Is there a larger backseat I can buy? I'm considering building my own. I have foam and vinyl, but I need to think of a material to make a sturdy, seat-shaped frame piece that I could attach the vinyl to. Any ideas?
  • Which bike should i buy either of honda or yamaha? I love Yamaha bikes but due to less pocket money my parents force me to buy Honda bikes because of its resale values and also due to its costs… How should i convince them.
  • What motorcycle will give me a similiar ride to my 750 Shadow but bigger? I learned to ride on a 2007 Honda Shadow VT750C2F and now I'm looking to go bigger. I love almost every detail about my Shadow; tire size, spokes, driveshaft, handling, width, engine look and feel etc. However, in my next bike I want a bigger gas tank, more cubic cenimeters (inches) and I want to sit a bit higher on the hog (pun intended). 6 speed would be nice but mostly I want the look, feel and reliability of my Shadow in an 1100cc+. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
  • Want to upgrade to a bigger cruiser? This is the second season I haven't had a motorcycle and I can't take it anymore! I previously had two honda shadow 750's and they were great bikes, but I want something with more oomph. I'm pretty open to any manufacturer. There are a few things that I'm looking for in a bike. Low seat height. I'm right under 5 7". Somewhat light bike. 550-650 ish pounds Less than $5000.
