What size or type of rear sprocket do I need for a 1981 honda cb750c?
If you want an original OEM sprocket you need to buy a 43 tooth sprocket. Want a little more power on take off then get a 40 tooth rear sprocket. Want more top end speed and maybe a little better mileage then get a 48 tooth. I highly recommend you replace the chain and front sprocket if the rear sprocket is worn. If you change just the rear sprocket, the chain is already stretched to fit the old sprocket, the new sprocket is a different shape and it will damage the new sprocket as the chain is allowed to move around on the sprocket teeth and it will wear them down faster. As the chain often does not sit low enough on the sprocket, it can also do extra damage to the chain as well. In the long run it is the cheaper option to change the entire assembly. Front and rear sprocket plus a new chain. You do not want that chain breaking at 60 mph. You can find all you need on Ebay or any motorcycle shop.
