Which dual sport should I get?
I'm looking at getting a dual sport bike so I can drive on and off road (my friend and I hit the trails a lot but I want something for the city too).
I like Yamahas and Hondas, and could care less for Suzuki and Kawasaki. I want one that would handle more difficult trails/hills, so I'm thinking something among the line of the DRZ400/440 or the XR650 (the 250 might be a bit small), but I'm interested in your opinions/recommendations.
WR250R… Amazing bike. Its a Yamaha. You can upgrade it with a few after market parts… Like an Athena header. Make it a 265. I know a guy that rides a WR250R on Maui Hawaii, with a gopro on him. You can watch his videos and see what the bike can handle… I've seen it go through a lot. His YouTube is accidental broadcast.
I rode my 1974 Yamaha DT175 from 1974 through 1987 -- doing 60+ mph on the streets of Los Angeles and riding in the Mojave. Small and light is better -- I could drop the bike and pick it back up with one hand.
I have a Husqvarna TE 630. It's a lighter more powerful than the KLR. KTM Enduro 690 is a very nice bike but they are more expensive.
- Which bike would be a good first sport bike. Looking at CBR1000/600's and also the yamaha R1/R6? I don't know much about the differences, I know some people are all for Suzuki, Yamaha, Honda, of Kawasaki. Seems that whatever bike someone has, they say its the best. I wish I could just ride all of them and see for myself. Tampa, FL Sam
- What type of Dual Sport will last on the freeway? Well I want a Dual Sport bike for commuting to work and other places. I was thinking about the 2015 Honda CRF250L but I heard that on the freeway it starts to have a little trouble when hitting 60-65. Now I will be riding the freeway quite a bit since that's how I get to work. So I need help on figuring out which bike is best for me. Also I'm 6'2 and about 260pounds. Please help me and my love handles finding a perfect bike.
- What to get for Dual Sprt Tires? I own a 2014 Honda Crf250x that I plan to make a supermoto. I can only find DOT approved tires for the road, but I will take the bike on the road only around 20% of the time, so I want to buy DOT approved dirt tires. Does anyone know of such a thing?
- What should I get for my first sport bike? I have been riding an old 1975 175xl Honda enduro for about a year now so I wouldn't consider myself a beginner but I I've been hearing that the 250 ninja is a great beginner bike and this will be my first Sport bike so this is the bike I have been looking at. Is this a good idea or will I go out grow it too fast? I'm about 135 pounds and 5'4 My price range is under 3000$ I'm open to any advice
