Which is better, the 2014 Honda CBR650F or the 2014 KTM 690 Duke?
The MSRP is based at $9,000 for both. My criteria for deciding is based off of a few interests.
*Aftermarket support for crash protection
KTM: has Sato racing lower sliders and Hepco & Becker upper sliders as well as axle sliders and pass. Peg sliders, etc. I want to put Metisse universal X-pads on both the sato & Hepco brackets if possible. This can be somewhat costlier and complicated. KTM's "can" could get damaged in a fall unlike the Honda.
Honda: Basic setup and R&G is coming out with brackets to possibly facilitate x-pads. Clip-ons can snap individually instead of having to replace the whole handlebar like on KTM (this is a plus kind of). This setup may not be as comprehensive as the KTM setup but is easier and cheaper. Also the flush exhaust is safe under the bike.
* Power-to-weight ratio
KTM=0.204HP/lb. & Honda=0.186HP/lb.
KTM has a tuning kit as well.
*Chain lock-ablility
Both have frame pass-thrus for a chain
* wind protection
KTM=barely with that "touring flyscreen", Honda=Yes
* ABS
Both have it.
*Cluster readout
KTM's is slightly better
This would be my second bike coming from an XL883R with approx. 0.0739HP/lb. Totally different kind of bike, I know.
I want to learn very advanced riding skills that in practicing could put the bike down. Please keep your choice between these two bikes. The bikes are within my price range.
Please say why you picked what you did in detail. Experienced riders only please. No smart@$$ answers.
The Duke is a single-cylinder with 37 hp.

The HOnda is a 4-cyl with 87 hp.

Can't believe the difference in hp. The Duke specs may have a typo. It certainly doesn't agree with your hp/weight ratios!
Anyway I have respect for 'plonkers' (as we used to call 'em) but sporty they ain't. Plus I like the Honda's looks more (but that's just me). Plus I think Honda just makes a better product.
Coming off a Sportster, the KTM might feel more familiar to you. 8^) (Yeah, I'm being sarcastic. You could tell right away, huh?)
If you're going to do stunts, you want an old beater that you can drop over and over without feeling bad. Look at the bikes people do exhibitions on, they are all specially worked over to be immune to dropping and sliding.
I've put thousands of miles down over 2 years and I know how to ride. I have already been down on the highway thanks to a texting cager. I'm not talking your average commuter skills but competition level techniques. I'm far from an expert rider but you failed to answer my question whatsoever. As a formula one racer once put it " ya gonna race cars mate, your gonna crash cars mate." If your not interested in protecting your ride then that's your prerogative but don't tell others how to outfit their riding experience. Please just answer the question I asked.
I haven't ridden a CBR650 but I have had a test ride on a recent Duke which was a hoot - but the two bikes are really different.
I can imagine the CBR would be a decent long-distance mile-muncher with the capability to scratch a bit when the need comes, whereas the Duke barely makes sense unless you are on it the whole time - it just doesn't do pottering and certainly not touring.

What are these skills?
Motogymkhana for example, I would suggest that a 250-450 is probably the most you could ever need (and still be competitive)
You can learrn advanced skills on a 250 & it won't hurt the back pocket as much when it hits the road
- Which is better? Toyota corolla going 2014 or Honda city 2014? I live in pakistan the price of these cars are the same and i need to buy a new car. Please help me cz I'm confused between both of these
- Would a Honda CBR650f be easy or hard to maintain? I've never ridden before so I'm debating between the cbr 500 or the 650. Look I know the 500 is prob a better choice for a beginner, but my first car was a camaro ss 2010… So what would you recommend me to get? Would the 500 be Any different then the 650?
- Which is better? Honda cbr 250 or ktm duke 390? I can't decide between these two! Both are priced almost same! And both are great bikes! i want to buy the bike which has: 1.decent mileage(30-35kmpl is fine). 2.more refined engine. 3.comfort. 4.great build quality 5.lesser maintenance. 6.lower servicing cost and decent resale value.
- How much faster is the Honda Interceptor (VFR800) than the Honda CBR650F? How much faster is the interceptor (VFR800) than the CBR650F? Also with the interceptor increased power wouldn't the chain break a lot? Thanks And how fast is the CBR650F and the Interceptor? MPH
