Flush is not an accurate name and they certainly don't backflush. Direction of flow is normal. Flush machine is just a gimmick. Anyone saying flushing or backflushing is happening had no clue what is going in.
It simply exchanges fluid, out thru one cooler line and in thru the other. It uses the transmission's own pump which doesn't have a pump backwards option.
Stories of transmission maintenance ruining transmissions are abundant because people always need someone else to blame. Using the same fluid for 200k miles and then deciding to maintain is abuse. Waiting to you feel something weird to maintain is too late. But it will be blamed on mechanic so mechanics refuse to help you once you've negleted it.
Never flush an automatic transmission. They back flush it a and all the dirt that was caught in th ATF filter goes into the valve body and can cause failure. Just do a drain and fill.
Honda America has warned never to flush any Honda transmission. Drain and fill at the prescribed intervals, although Honda enthusiasts do it at 30K intervals.
