Car experts say avoid 4 cylinder cars due to lack of power. Agree or disagree?

I'm debating between Honda CR-V and Pilot. CR-V gets great gas mileage but only has a 4 cylinder 184hp engine which seems under-powered for such a large car. Pilot has V6 280hp engine but much worse MPG.

Currently I own a 4 cylinder car and I get what they are saying. The lack of power especially while merging on the freeway and climbing hills always makes me nervous and even scared sometimes when a semi is right on my bumper. But before that I had a V6 SUV which had a lot of power but only got 17mpg while my current car gets 50mpg.

So which should I choose… CR-V or Pilot?

What "car experts"? That's utter b.s. Unless you live in the Rocky Mountains.

No expert in the world says that. Ford's EcoBoost four-cylinder is highly regarded, is in the F-150 and the Mustang, and can produce 310 hp. The entire automotive industry is moving to smaller, higher output (read four or six cylinder) engines. Stupid question.

Are any of these so-called "experts" still alive? That might have been a good argument in 1963, maybe.

CRV with a 4 cyl is a good car. I do not know where you are getting your expert advice from but in to days cars the 4 cyl is a great little engine. Good milage etc. Take the honda civic 4 cyl automatic not fast but will go up hills just fine as it will down shift to make the hills at speed. So to your experts stick it. The only real engine is a v8 if you want power but lacks one thing gas millage.

6 cyl, 300 Hp. 5000 Lb .4WD 20 MPG. Ideal Vehicle.
4 Cyls. Are for bikes and boats.
