When is a Tune Up due on newer cars?
I have a 3 year old Honda but it doesn't say when tune up should be performed. Just says to do it when the maintenance minder comes but it hasn't come on even after 70,000 miles!
Modern cars do not have tune-ups. All you have to do is follow the maintenance schedule.
In fact, very little of what was included in the tune-ups of old even exist in modern cars.
Newer cars don't really need tuneups like the old cars with carburetors did. You won't find the term "tuneup" in the maintenance schedule for new cars. Look for when to replace fuel filter and when to replace spark plugs. That's about it.
I would have changed the oil and filter 14 times in that 70 000 miles, the air filter, plugs, fuel filter, cabin filters.Rotated the tires twice a year, change the brake pads, inspect the rotors.Re torque the lug nuts.Maintain the paintwork.
The computer tunes the engine. Look in your owner's manual for recommended service. You certainly drive a lot. It won't be long before you need a new cam belt.
There's no specific "tune up" on modern cars. They don't have ignition points, there's no carburetor to fiddle with, and modern spark plugs last for years.
The handbook will list the routine things that need to be checked or replaced as part of your regular servicing. It's had new oil filters.Probably an air filter or 2 and likely due for new spark plugs soon.
Chances are the dealer has reset the maintenance light and checked the required parts each time you took it in. Just keep up the suggested maintenance and it will run for years.
On a modern car the computer is performing a "Tune Up" hundreds of times each second.
In fact no car ever specified a "Tune Up".
Keep driving it then. Your car will know when it needs a tune up
Hi so it usually needs a service every 12k miles at the very least.
If it has platinum NGK or Denso spark plugs they need replacing with the same brand spark plug at 60,000 miles.
All Honda motors have a common problem with the valves getting tight. The valves need adjusting every 60,000 miles.
If it's an automatic I'd drain and fill the ATF every 60,000 miles too.
I hope you're doing oil changes every 3,000 miles or 5,000 miles if using synthetic oil!
Maintenance schedules are always listed in the owners manual. Read it!
Most modern cars only need the plugs changed every 100,000 miles and the air filter only when needed. There's little else to do unless you happen to get some contaminated gas. Then the fuel filter may need changing. I recommend changing plugs around 70 to 80 thousand miles instead of waiting 100,000 miles.
- How long does it take for loan max to repossess your car after your loan due date in Ohio? I took out an $800 title loan on my 2000 Honda Oddyssey (188,000 miles) and I can't make the initial repayment amount of $288 on time. How long will it be before they send someone out to repossess my car? I live in Ohio and I'm really afraid they will repossess it before I can come up with the cash.

- How true is it that you should avoid 1st year cars due to unknown problems? I have always heard that you should avoid the first year cars (new model or major redesign) because they have the most problems. Is this true or a wive's tale? I was thinking about buying the 2016 Honda Civic, which underwent a major redesign, but I'm glad I didn't because they forgot to install some bolt in the engine which causes fires.
