P0741 - Torque Converter CKT Performance Or Stuck Off?
I just bought a used 2005 Honda Pilot, about 100 000 miles, and the same day the check engine light came on. I got a code reader and I get the code: P0741 - Torque Converter CKT Performance Or Stuck Off. The car drives fine, so I can't see anything wrong other than the yellow check engine light. What would that be? What should I do?
Clear the code
You have a torque converter issue. Get it fixed, You could ruin the transmission. Go to a transmission shop or the dealer and have it looked at…http://www.engine-codes.com/p0741_honda.html
To explain the codes detected by a code reader it's necessary to explain what the code reader is telling you.
When a code reader indicates a particular code, that's telling you that a particular sensor or component on your engine is indicating an out of range parameter.
This doesn't necessarilly mean the the sensor or component that reports the out of range parameter is bad, it just means that that particular sensor or component has received information reporting that something is not per spec upstream from that particular part.
Sometimes this means that the reporting device is defective, most times, the reporting device is working as designed and the problem lies upstream from there which can indicate another problem that's causing the sensor to read out of range.
This is why knowledgeable mechanics never just replace a sensor or component based on the code reader's indication.
A good mechanic will ALWAYS first test the indicated component or sensor to determine that it is reading correctly. If it's reading correctly he then knows that he must investigate why the reported reading is out of range.
The code of PO741 on a Honda indicates that one or more of the following may be an issue:
Low transmission fluid level
Dirty transmission fluid
Faulty torque converter clutch solenoid valve
Torque converter clutch solenoid valve harness or connectors
Torque converter clutch solenoid valve circuit is open or shorted
Transmission internal mechanical problem
