How can you get the best rock bottom price on a new car?

I'm shopping for a 2017 Honda Pilot but car buying services like Truecar is only offering a $2000 discount. I feel like that's not very much. Would it be possible to get $4000 off? How?

Particularly with foreign cars, they price them closer to the sale price these days. You can also wait until the 2018's come out and the discounts are bigger. Personally I would buy one a year or two old.

If you can find the car you want on the lot (no special order) you can offer what you are willing to pay and just walk if they don't want to take it. Don't expect a big discount if they have to order it for you. The key is to research dealer inventories online to make sure they have something you want before you go in.
Carsdirect.com has some prices too, but they are also in the $2k-$3k discount range.

Unless there are manufacturer incentives on the specific vehicle you want, there's very little profit margin for dealers within which they can negotiate --- certainly not $4000 on the Pilot. You're lucky to get $2000.

Furthermore, finding deals on Honda vehicles is difficult. Honda has long felt that their vehicles are top-notch and can sell themselves without heavy incentives. I know all this because my family and I have been buying and leasing Hondas for years.

If you want a good alternative to the Pilot, which honestly is not a great vehicle this year, look at the Toyota Highlander and Kia Sorento. A friend, who has always bought Pilots didn't like the 2016-2017 and bought the Sorento, and loves it.

The market dictates the price at any one time - just because you feel it is not enough that makes no difference.

Send an email to every dealership within 150 miles, tell them what you want and ask for the best price. Put bottom bidders in bidding war.

Silly anonymous troll.
