If I drop something into the engine bay, can I unscrew the bottom of the car to get it?

I dropped something into the engine bay and can hear it landed onto the bottom.

On the bottom of the car is a metal sheet. I can't squeeze under my car, but I can feel there are screws down there.

Do you think I can unscrew one side of the metal sheet (the side closest to the front bumper), bend open the metal sheet slightly, and poke a stick into it to retrieve what I dropped?

I have a 2017 Honda CR-V.

How about using one of those magnets on a telescoping stick? Or just tape a magnet to a piece of sturdy wire?

Its worth a try.

Run the car u pon blocks or straddle a gutter t ogive you more room.

Just use a mechanical pickup tool to retrieve the object. It would be easier than taking the skid plate off. Might also enlist the help of a woman to spot the object, they're really good at finding small things like that. But yes, the skidplate / splash shields do come off but its a pain. I don't recommend trying to bend it though if its metal, just take the whole thing off.

Sure can. Watchout though, some of those new fasteners are snaps instead of screws and the have a push pin in the center you poke or it won't release.
