Which car is more ideal for winter conditions
We have a 2008 Honda Pilot with 4WD and a 2016 Sedona Front wheel drive. The pilot is all wheel drive however it's in need of a tire change while the Sedona has new tires. Both are on all seasons as we live in an area that doesn't snow, winter tires are not a necessity for us. Which car will be safer for Lake Tahoe weather.
I would take the Sedona
With it having good tires all the way around, at least you know you'll get there.
Front wheel drive will surprise you in the snow.
Tires with integrity are more important than the type of drive system (FWD, AWD, 4WD, etc.) your vehicle may have. Reason being, good quality tires allow better braking and cornering ability. All an AWD or 4WD system provides is the ability to get unstuck out of ice and snow. For a trip to Tahoe you are going to need the ability to brake and handle your vehicle properly much more than getting out of an ice or snow situation. Take the Hyundai.
Definitely the Honda.
The Pilot with better tires. Unless the tires are almost bald, I would still use the Pilot.
Get some nw tires for the Honda
4WD is always better in snow. Worn out tires are not the biggest issue, since you can replace them. If you already own both cars, you decide what you want to do. Worn out tires are susceptible to hydroplaning in the rain. All the times I've gone to Lake Tahoe, it's been in 2wd cars, but some roads I've had to keep it slower for control.

- Do you need someone to start your car when you go on vacation (winter)? One of my roommates is going on vacation for a week and has asked me to start up their car and let it run for 10 minutes every day. I think they are worried about their battery? It is winter, 30 degrees F, some snow on the ground. It is a regular 2015 Honda sedan. I've never heard of this and tried to find some articles but am not finding clear answers. Is this necessary or beneficial to the car?
- Sandbags in car for winter? Wondering if it is necessary or more dangerous to place a sandbag in my trunk for the winter time? I have a front wheel drive honda civic.
