Should I paint over a bad tear in my bumper, or order a new one and have the mechanics install it then have them paint it?

I recently bought a used 1997 Honda Prelude. It's red and badly sun faded and has a bad tear on the rear bumper. I was wondering whether I should just have it painted over or order a whole new bumper and have the people at the shop install it and paint it for me. Any suggestions?

Sure paint it and be known as the tear bumper a sshole

You wouldn't need a whole new bumper; just the bumper cover.

But a new bumper paint job on a car that's otherwise badly sun-faded will stand out like a sore thumb. There's no way to get it to match.

The car is 20 years old. It's never going to look new again.

Consider doing something contrasty: paint BOTH bumpers flat black. (Not glossy.) Hey, it's an idea…

Take it to a local body/paint shop and have them give you an estimate. They may be able to repair the bumper tear cheaper than replacing it.
