Small engine Question?
I have a Honda GX 620 and i was wondering if i need to charge those coils to get spark or can it run without battery?
You don't charge ignition coils. Ignition coils are step-up transformers, meaning they increase the voltage exiting them. They require an electrical input in order to function. In the case of a small motor such as the GX 620, it uses magneto ignition to operate the spark plugs. On the flywheel there's a magnet embedded at one end and it passes extremely close by a magneto assembly which causes it to produce an electrical current. That current is then fed into the ignition coil which amplifies the voltage before sending it off to the spark plug. This is why you can start a small engine with a rip cord. Your engine has a battery because it operates an electric starter because unless you're He-Man, you're gonna throw your back out trying to start a 620cc twin cylinder motor with just a rip cord.

What's it mean when your driving down the road and the battery light comes on then the radio goes on and off then shuts off completely and the speed amateur stops working? I pulled over and looked under the hood then about five minutes later it went back to normal and started back just fine. What happened
- 2000 Honda Odyssey Question? If my honda odyssey engine shuts off while driving and the dashboard lights up like a christmas tree and the codes P1361 and P1366 come up, what is the likely problem? I was able to start up engine and drive with no further issues.
- Question about motorcycle CDI ignitions, battery, and kickstarter? I have a 1979 Honda cb250t that I got a couple of days ago and long story short, there's no spark. It has a kick-starter AND electric start, but it doesn't have a battery in it but it has the + and - terminal leads and what not, I was just wondering, in my motorcycle with a TIA01-20 CDI ignition, is a 12v battery mandatory for spark? Sorry if this is a dumb question, I'm no electrical genius haha!
