What will adding a cold air intake filter do to my 1997 corolla?
Do these things add mpg? Hp?
Added (1). I don't plan on ricing it out I was just wondering. I sometimes see old hondas and toyotas and they have these along with a ridiculous body kits lol.
They will do nothing. Its a waste of money. They only add 4/10 hp at full throttle. You drive at full throttle all day long? Your car already has a cold air intake. Go look and see where the air intake is. Its right behind the the grill or fender
Most of this kits will add about 1 hp if at all. With the AC on, the gains will be negligible. Buy a set of tires and rims if you want to spend some money on the car or better yet, just leave the car alone.
Nothing. They're a scam to separate dumb people from their money.
Certainly not, in some older cars (maybe yours) you can force more air & gas in to your engine, thus using MORE gas not less, so lower MPG. Realistically they may add 2 - 6 HP, on new cars they can actually make your car slower due to a CAI confusing the sensors and computer (ECU).
Very unwise use of currency. CAI will not cause any noticeable improvements and is far more likely to cause problems. Like Jon Mac said, it will cause problems with sensors such as the MAF and MAP. It also makes your car extremely vulnerable to water puddles. Drive through one puddle too fast or too deep and the CAI will ingest it and can hydrolock your engine causing permanent damage and result in a dead engine.
I could go on. But it would be just a lot of rambling from problems I have witnessed along with dynamometer test results.
Zero mpg extra.same mph.to get best miles make sure your tyres are at correct pressure… Buy your own gauge… Garages are rarely right
Cold air has a higher density and more air density means the burn process in the engine is more intense and accordingly the power increases and the mpg increases too as the fuel burns more without wasting but without a turbo the gained power is only very little, same the mpg increase would be only very little that it is not worth to make the effort to install an engine air-cooler or "cold air intake filter".
It might not be so bad on your 1997 Corolla with it's narrow-band O2 sensor, but Toyotas in general hate aftermarket intakes. You can expect little change or loss of power and fuel economy. The factory cold air intake on it is the best you will find for an affordable price. A better one will cost more than the car is worth.
Make your wallet lighter, so you might gain 0.00001 sec in a quarter mile.
- Is the AEM V2 cold air intake worth it for my 97 honda prelude? So i'm thinking of buying a cold air intake and i've heard the v2 is a really good one. Is it worth the money? How much and what would i gain from it? Just basically need to know details and all that stuff. Thankz a lot guys
- I have a 2015 Honda rancher that had a crack in the air box. It got so much dirt through the air filter it got into my piston. So it now Burns oil and I was wonder will it ever stop smoking. I know I have to rebuild the engin so don't even say it. And how long will it take before it losses power.
- How to build a cold air intake? My buddy built one for his little Honda, I was curious if I can build one for a trail blazer and what all that intels
- Which Cold Air Intake/Short ram should i buy? Alright so i'm looking to get an intake but i would like to have higher by the hood, just in case it rains but what are some good intakes for a 2003 Honda Civic EX 1.7 Auto, i'm leaning tours AEM or K&N, what are the diferences between Short ram intake and CAI?
