Which income category do I fall into?

40 year old male. I only have about $9000 in my bank account. Drive a Honda SUV. Income, depends on the gig because I have my own office.

Am I a low income, middle class or high class?

Added (1). I'm getting $3000-$4000 a month without any benefits like health insurance or dentals.

Added (2). I live in North California.

Middle

Your income category depends on your income, not the amount of cash in your bank. It also depends on your age and marital status. A 20-year old single male earning $30,000 a year wold be considered more affluent than a 40-year old married male earning the same amount.

It would depend upon average monthly or annual income and how much it costs to live where you are. For example that would be different in a rural area than some place like New York city or Orange County California.

Cash in the bank in NOT income. What do you report on your tax return? Average US household income is about $52,000

Instead of worrying about "class" labels, think about how you can improve yourself.

At 48K per year on the high end you're solidly middle class by national standards but probably struggling in most parts of northern California.

You need to give your annual salary. I hope you got the recall about Hondas and the air bag inflator. People are dying from the inflator exploding. I have a CRV 2011 and they sent me a letter how dangerous the car was and got me a rental car so I'm now driving that and it is a new Buick. Check online for recalls. YOu are poor without stating your income.
