1999 Honda Accord Doesn't Start-Battery Fine?
Sorry, JJ. I tried writing this info in, but it didn't post the first time. Anyway, here's my situation:
I have a 1999 Honda Accord. Yesterday, as I was running errands, the car would not start right away when turning the key. It would click, then after a few tries it would start. This morning, I can't get ot to turn over. A few weeks ago, as screw came loose from the gear shifter and the vinyl handle has been loose, so I'm wondering if this has something to do with it. Battery is fully charged and car has plenty of gas Thanks!
Maybe you could at least say if the engine turns over. Do you think we can read your mind?
You have not specified the car has a four or a six cylinders, a manual or an automatic transmission so I've included a wiring diagram for the starting system of an EX 4 cylinders since it's more commonly in use.
The shifter knob screw came loose and the handle came off did not have anything to do with the starting problem. All you have to do is reinstall the sifter handle and reinstall the screw to secure the handle back to the shifter unit.
I would say the starter is going south but there are a few things you'll need to check first before replacing the starter:
Next is to clean all battery cable terminal ends and make sure it tight/ correctly fit onto the battery do the same thing for the starter cable/ wiring. Have the charging/ starting systems check out for free at your local Advance or Auto Zone auto part stores.
As you can see in the wiring diagram, depend on the car has M/T or A/T. Thing that you'll have to check the starter cut relay, the clutch safety switch, the Park/ Neutral switch, the starter solenoid/ starter assembly, the ignition switch and the two grounds (G110 and G200) G111 if bad will create other problem in addition to the starting problem.

Your car may have been one of the 1999 Accords included in the big ignition switch recall - see the last recall in the source. You will have to call the Honda dealer to verify the status of your car according to the VIN number. Free repairs are the best.
- Motorcycle starter over heated starter and only the solenoid clicked so i rebuilt the starter n tested it with a battery n it worked fine? Put it back in bike and again only the solenoid clicks… Is there a fuse for the starter or a relay i may have blown? 1988 honda hurricaine 1000F i'm ready to hang it up but the bike runs so good when it runs. i ran out of gas n kept trying to start it till battery was dead and that is how it got this way. Please and thank-you starter works fine when hooked up to a battery off the bike. what gives?
- Bought a 1985 Honda inspector kid told me it needed new battery but started with jump got new battery and it was dead next day? Pretty sure its the alternator just wanted some second opinions also I got the bike for 600 dollars you guys think thats a good deal
- Will a 2000 Honda civic front bumper fit a 1999 civic I'm talking about a 1999 civic dx? I have a 99 I'm in need of a new front bumber and I'm looking on Craigslist and a found a 2000 civic front bumper that's dope and it's cheap so I'm asking if it would fit perfect or what adjustments would I have to make is it worth it pretty much thanks
- Car ran fine then wouldn't start, got a jump, now everything is fine again. What happened? '03 Honda Civic. Last 30 mins of work I sat in my car with the A/C on full blast and radio on, like I do everyday (and of course the car is running). I stopped at Subway after work. The car was parked for 10 mins. After the car would not start but the radio and dash board lights would come on, but it would not crank. Got a jump from AAA. Afterwards Auto Zone tested the battery and alternator, both passed. I has been a week now and no problems. What the heck could have happened?
