2000 Honda Accord burning a lot of oil on the highway but not in town?
I have about 212k miles on it. It runs great. I did have some problems with the VTEC oil sensor but I think it was due to low oil to begin with.
The thing is, driving around town for the last 2-3 months, about 200 miles worth, no oil consumption hardly at all. But once I hop on the highway and go 70 miles its almost a quart and a half low? I don't see any smoke and there doesn't appear to be a leak. A little leakage around distributor but not a quarts worth I don't think.
My real question would be whether the VTEC sensor being stuck is actually causing it to burn more on the highway or something like that? Any input would be appreciated!
Check the tail pipe. If it's not oily then you are not burning oil.
Okay, I will check it next time I take it on the highway later next week. I just was hoping to get some insight on the VTEC sensor operation and whether that could be a factor.
- Honda Odssey seems more comfortable than Town Country, is this true? I was comparing these two vehicles online, and the Odyssey seems to be a better fit. In comfort, in reliablity, quality… Etc. Or am I wrong? What do you think? I know times have passed where both of these vehicles have improved, but… I need all the help i can get!
- Will a oil pressure sensor cause a 1999 honda civic not to crank if oil is low? While I was driving I noticed it wouldn't go any faster while I was going about 60mph but I felt the transmission spinning and the revs were high I then pulled over and put the car in Park and noticed the engine wasn't on Or Is it seized?
- Oil Change: Honda Motor Oil Vs Generic oil, does it make a difference? I have been getting oil changes with Honda motor oil for 15 years on my 2002 civic that now has 132K miles. If I switch to a generic $10 oil change garage shop will it still be ok? I know the Honda filters are better then the cheapest generic ones but how about the actual motor oil?
- For a 4 cylinder Honda civic (2,000); what would you say is expectable gas mileage for mixed driving conditions; both in town and highway? I have to drive a bit to work every day and am trying to figure what my Honda Civic should get in gas mileage. Do you have any input? If I find out I'm getting 25 mpg for mixed driving conditions; am I too low for a Honda Civic? By the way: This is not a hybrid car. It is burning straight gasoline. So: What should I expect in mpg?
