My car (Honda Accord 2000) does not start after 2 months?

My car has been sitting for about 2 months and now it does not start. My car's battery is older than 2 years, but 2 months ago it used to work perfectly fine. All the lights turn on and I could see the timing belt turn slowly but the car does not start. I also tried boosting with two different cars twice, but with no avail. Could it be a battery problem? Is it a bad starter, fuel pump or bad alternator?

By the way, I have little to no knowledge about cars, but I'm an electronics technician, if that helps.

What do you expect? A battery normally can last five weeks without the car being started to recharge it. All it needs is a trickle charger to recharge the battery. That can take over 12 to 15 hours. Be patient. Of course, the question as to why the car was not used for two months begs to be asked. Why?

Take the 12 volt battery to any store that sells new ones other than Auto Zone. Ask for a free *15 second battery load test to see what the reserve amperage capacity is. Amperage spins starter motors not voltage. When a new battery has been installed, touch the battery terminals with an inexpensive volt meter set @ 20 volts with the engine running. IF the alternator is charging properly the volt meter should read between 13.5 - 14.2 volts.

Sorry- my crystal ball is in the crystal ball repair shop…

Thanks for the two suggestions, but I figured it out. After reading through lots of forums, people pointed out the security feature of the car. In my case, I have two keys: one key was Honda's Original and the other one is just a copy of the original but not programmed. The copy one does not turn the car ON. It can only be used to open the doors. Because two months ago I used the copied key to open and close the doors and trunk of the car, therefore, when yesterday I tried to turn the car ON, it wasn't working. So today I went back and tried the copied key and then the original key and walla, it worked.

So in a nut shell, after reading tons of forums, I noticed the flashing key light and tried both fake and original keys and it worked. No need to change anything. Hope this helps other people.

  • I let my car sit for 3 months and the battery died. I tried to jump it but it would start? I Tried jumping my car by connecting the jumper cable plugs to it for like 1 min and few seconds… Should I keep the jumper cables in longer or do I just need to buy a new battery. I drive a honda civc 2008. *Wouldn't
  • Is it ok to not start my motorcycle for 3 months? I'll be leaving for a summer of work in Alaska. The summer months here are hot and warm - hardly any rain (Oregon). I plan to put my rain cover over my bike and keep it in the driveway while I'm gone. Is it ok to do this? Do I need to drain the fuel before i start it back up when I come home? Any tips would be great. Thanks. **for more info it is a 2007 Honda Shadow Sabre 1100cc
  • Honda civic display not working after fitting an after market radio. How to fix? Hi, I have just fitted an aftermarket radio on my 2006 Honda civic and it doesn't allow you to connect the lead from the top display (one which shows radio station, Aircon) to the new radio so there's no power getting to it. Does anyone know if I can get a splitter or something to power the radio and the display?
  • 2000 Honda Civic will crank but not start I have a 2000 Honda Civic. I traded for it, I was actually a previous owner of it and it ran fine back in the day. I wanted it back and found it. It has been sitting in this guys yard for about 2 months. I go to start it up. It starts up just fine… Then it randomly just shuts off and never have been able to start it up again. It cranks and it smells rich in gasoline when you crank it a couple times. I checked the fuses and battery. Any help would be great.
