What are some proper maintenance on a car?

I'm looking for simple DIY maintenance to do on a car! It's a Honda Accord 2010 EX-L V6 with 100k of mileage. I know the timing belt & water pump needs to be change (trying to save up). I did few of the basics such as

1) Cabin Filter Replacement
2) Air Filter Replacement
3) Fuel Injecter System Cleaner

Anything else I can do?

If you have leather then clean, condition, and protect it ie steering wheel.

Can suck out the old power steer fluid and add new. Use only the clear Honda (equivalent) power fluid. If it does not look too difficult to do.

Other things you can do on your own with basic tools, jack stands and a service manual or youtube.

Coolant change; drain and fill. Check the coolant hoses for cracks and leaks. Replace if needed. While you're at it you can change the thermostat if you want for an extra $40-50.
Oil and oil filter change. If you don't do this yourself already. Start.
Transmission oil and filter (if automatic) change. This procedure is just like the oil change. Use only Honda fluid for this.
Check brake pads for wear. Change if needed. Change brake fluid and rotors if needed. While you're doing this you can also rotate the tires. While rotating tires check for even wear on the treads. If tire wear is uneven then an alignment may be in your future.

  • Why don't some people like a Honda car? It seems like some people dislike Honda. Why don't they? What's your opinion? I think it's a great brand. Hondas are well built and built to last in my opinion.
  • Where can I go to service my car for maintenance if I'm in another city? My maintenence light warning came on today on my Honda and I'm currently in another city for work. Can I go the nearest Honda dealer to get it serviced or would I have to go through a mechanic
  • How to find out when my car requires maintenance? I bought a new Honda and when I read the owner's manual it just says to rely on the maintenance computer to tell me. But I want to know in advance what miles I will need Tune-up, new spark plugs, fluid changes etc. But none of this is covered in the owner's manual! So how do I find out about what mileage I will need to perform these services?
  • What's average cost for car 30,000 maintenance service? I have a 2013 CR-V that I bought a few months back. Just got the oil changed at the dealership and they told me that I the car will be due for its 30,000 maintenance service in the winter. The honda service center charges $525 for the service. Is this average?
