Opinions on starter bikes?

My name is Kevin and I'm interested in getting a new motorcycle. I'm a beginner in motorcycles I've never owned one or riden one. I would love to get a Cbr 600 but I feel that's too much and my buddy agrees it's too much. I'm considering a 250 but I feel that's not enough thrill. I'm leaning towards a ninja 300, any advice for a beginner? My style is a street or sport bike I'm not too much into the Harley types, I'm a teenager lol. Also the Honda Cbf 500 catches my eye if that's a good starter. Any help or tips even would be greatly appreciated!

The sitting position on the ninja 300 is leaned to far to the front, that is good for racing but not good in public traffic, because to look at the traffic its then need to always raise the head up and after some trime dirving that becomes exhausting and dangerous to safety. Its better to have a bike with a more upright sitting position and that will be more comfy too.

there's bmw bikes that are up to 600ccm, those get the best ratings by test instiutes for handling on the road but true, those are costly. An alternative is the brand ktm, thats from austria, they are known for building quality bikes. The ktm 390 duke should be something, it has for abs, that is anti block system for the brakes, with that the bike is much better controlable, for a beginner that is a life saving issue.

the maintenance is important too, cheap bikes are usualy a total hassle to do the maintenance on and then parts damage because they arent precise and sturdy etc., the service then is expensive, buying a cheap bike will quickly be bothersome. Good bikes have an easy maintenance and often the serivce is cheap too. Better is to make a saving and get the better bike, that will be fun for years.

What do you mean as "not enough thrill"? The fastest I have done on a motorcycle is 20 mph over the speed limit. A Ninja 300 can do over 100 mph. Do you want the thrill of having the cops chasing you? The 600 can do 160 mph. Only problem with doing 160 mph on the highway is those idiots on the road blocking you. This guy was only 120 mph -- http://www.snopes.com/photos/accident/tulsacrash.asp

A sport bike is fun on the twisties, mountain roads. The 300 is lighter and can carve the canyons faster than a heavy 600.

My thrill is acceleration. I ride the streets of Los Angeles, where I'm allowed to filter to the front at a red traffic signal. When I get the green I want to be ahead. Period. Sports bikes are heavy and *slow* off the line, which is why I rode the Big Single, Suzuki's 652cc cruiser (a hair lighter than a Ninja300ABS, considerably lighter than any other sport/sporty bike.)

IMHO, the 600 4-cylinder racing bike is stupid on the streets. It is pushed by magazines and manufacturers cause they get more money.

I want a Honda CB300F.

Start by getting some professional training.

Then you are in a better position to inform your choice and less likely to stack it at the first corner.

A 250 is more than enough to learn on and, if you do not get thrills riding it, you are doing it wrong.

I started on a 600rr. And I find it perfect. Only thing is I have prior experience riding on 2 wheels. Be comfortable with what you choose. Don't forget. TEST RIDE
