Transmission fluid turned brown after 10k miles?
I have a 2001 Honda Prelude auto and I was wondering how come my transmission fluid turned brown only after driving it for about 10k miles.
The car currently has 84k miles on it and I'm hoping the tranny isn't going bad.
Probably needs a change. Honda's are drain and fill only it has a internal filter but that can't be changed unless transmission is pulled apart. The other problem is Honda's had transmission problems between 98-07. With that low mileage you probably don't nave a major problem yet. Find local shop at ATRA.COM for shop to change the fluid
You can have the tranny flushed at most auto shops and some quick change oil shops. Brown color could mean a coolant leak or tranny over heating
- Vehicle I drive is a 2007 Honda Element that just turned 64,000 miles. I'm rigorous about keeping up on maintaining it People constantly approach me and ask if I want to sell it because the body and interior are in great condition as are all the internal workings and suspension. Even though Honda does not require synthetic motor oil I use Valvoline full synthetic and change it every 4,000 miles with a new factory filter. My question is how long will my engine last?
