1975 Honda XL125 Compression and cam problem?

I have a 1975 Honda XL125 and I accidentally ran it without oil because I was far from the house and didn't check. I replaced the piston rings and got a new cam sprocket. It has barely any compression and I was wondering if it could be my gaskets on the engine. The gaskets are old and need to be replaced but I want to lay it off for a while unless it is the problem. I also am not sure which markings i need to line the cam sprocket up with on the flywheel. Any ideas about what might be the problem?

Just replacing the piston rings and not doing any measurements on the cylinder and piston will not get you anywhere. Get a service manual and
do your measurements and you can also find out the timing marks for the sprocket. And gaskets are always replaced when the engine is torn down.

  • What exhaust for a 1975 Honda CB200? The left side muffler rusted through and has a massive hole in it. I would like to have a stock muffler but I can't seem to find an OEM muffler for the life of me. What aftermarket exhaust (if any) can i put on without having to re-jet the carb? Or where can I find a used OEM left muffler? Both stock downpipes are perfect as well as the right muffler. Any help is appreciated

The guy I'm purchasing from said he was in the process of a rebuild and replaced the piston rings and seals. He said he purchased it running but it has not run in about 2-3 years. What could be causing the low compression? I realize it could be multiple things but what would be a ballpark figure be $$$-wise to fix?
