1984 Honda Sabre v65 in great condition, what's the max i should pay for it?

It's got 17k miles and it really is in good condition overall

It really depends on what you mean by "great condition." A really minty one can bring $3,500 or more. A good runner that's 100% complete and in perfect mechanical condition can bring $2,000 and ones with varying degrees of problems go all the way down to zero. Your best bet is to look around online and see what people are asking for similar ones. Another good source is the closed auctions on ebay. Those actually let you see what they sold for, not just what someone is asking. The bike is bordering on "classic" status among import bike enthusiasts and it was only made for a few years, so it's slightly more than just an average Nighthawk or something. I've ridden a version of that old monster a few years ago. It's really nothing like a sabre. It's more like a sledgehammer.

Parts are hard to find, but not impossible. You should be able to work on this bike yourself, expecially for the easy stuff.

$1500 bucks max for a decent bike.

No dealership will touch that if it needs work. They won't even do a tune up or change a tire for you. However independent shops like mine will. Finding parts needed is always the problem though. Some are not to hard to find and some require searching. If you buy that bike get it as cheap as you can for that reason. In fact your major bargaining chip is the fact that it will indeed be hard to get parts if/when they are needed. The most I would pay is a 1000 dollars and only if it is in MINT condition. Otherwise 750 dollars. Or pass, find another, newer bike. If you are going to get an old bike stick with Harley Davidson because parts are indeed available.[unless its a late 1984 sportster!]

Adding to what Ryde, On said, it's too old.
No shop will work on it.
Take that into account.
You will be doing All repairs yourself.

It's 30 years old, check to see if parts are still available for it before you make any offer.
