1995 Honda with 212k miles, should I go for it?

I'm looking at buying another car, a Honda Prelude to be exact, and what concerns me is that it has 212k miles. The owner has service records but a motor with that many miles? Should miles concern me especially for a 1995 Honda with a H22 motor? The car itself is in great shape and it has been loved but I'm not sure on the engine. I wish I could rebuild it but I'm not looking to put in more labor… I need a car to drive everyday anyways.

That sounds like nothing but trouble. Problem with the Prelude is that they are sporty, often owned by young people, driven hard, and often given performance modifications. I would be comfortable with an Accord or Civic with this many miles (unless it has a wing bolted to the rear deck) because they are generally well-maintained by adult drivers.

Its near dead with that many miles. And 20 years old. Its not a muscle car and it will never be considered a classic so it is worthless

It's a great car and that generation Prelude offered that engine options in very limited numbers. With that said, I have to agree with Dan H. It's a highly capable car and I'm pretty sure that car has seen it;'s share of abuse, even if it was properly maintained. People don't buy cars lke that to not use what it has. If you still want it, I would suggest getting it checked out by a mechanic. Who knows? Maybe it's the diamond in the rough and those are freeway miles. A compression test will answer alot of questions. If the price is right, it could be a good buy. Just expect to put something into it based on the age alone. That engine can easily last another 100-200K, provided it's wasn't abused. Tough call.

It's been beaten on. Especially with over 200,000 miles. Half of them, is probably hitting redline all the time.
