99 Honda passport gettting power but randomly won't crank/start?
It gets power. The battery is fully charged, the terminals are nice and tight and the lights and radio all work fine. Its not a fuse and its not due to a bad battery. It only happens randomly. At first I thought it was the security system but i'm not sure because after 20+ min. It'll start like nothing was wrong. Anyone else have this problem? Or have a solution?
That is a sign for the Immobilizer system is not recognized the key, try another key. Have you tried resetting the alarm by locking and unlocking the drivers side door? If you do this a couple of times in some cars it will reset the factory security system and allow the key to work again.
The ignition keys have a resistor/chip built into them and the Immobilizer controller is programmed to that resistance and it needs to verify the resistance for the key before it will let the car start.
What I have read recently about this subject basically states that if you are having problems with a car not starting, won't turn over, no clicking but the car still has power… And everything seems fine in the car… Battery, starter, alternator, etc. But the security light comes on in the car and the car eventually does start usually 5 minutes or so later then it is the cars security system that is causing the problem. It doesn't recognize the resistance of the key.
The Passport Immobilizer system needs to be reprogrammed and the only two places will be able to do so is the dealer or any Locksmith who has a scanner capable to reprogram your Passport Immobilizer system. Locksmith would be cheaper.
Hope this help and e mail if you have more question. HTH
- How come my atv won't electric start but will crank if I push start it? 2006 Honda trx. Doesn't have a pull rope only electric start. The starter motor turns over the engine but just won't start but I'll push it down the yard with it in gear and it will fire right up. I'm so confused by this.
- My car won't start but when I try to start it, it sounds like a power drill? I have a 95 Honda Civic and it does not start it keeps making a noise that sounds like a power drill spinning. I have no idea what it is or could be any more. I've pulled the starter and put in a new one and the starter is still not catching the fly wheel. I have even resorted to charging the battery, checking all fluids (transmission, antifreeze, etc.) and putting in 5 gallons of gas but still nothing, can't pay to get it to a shop. Anything helps thanks.
- 93 Honda civic won't crank and fuel pump won't prime? My 93 honda civic dx will not crank and I can't hear the fuel pump prime either. The battery is brand new. All lights and dash lights work. The main relay has been replaced and I've checked all the fuses. What else could be the problem?
- 2000 Honda Civic will crank but not start I have a 2000 Honda Civic. I traded for it, I was actually a previous owner of it and it ran fine back in the day. I wanted it back and found it. It has been sitting in this guys yard for about 2 months. I go to start it up. It starts up just fine… Then it randomly just shuts off and never have been able to start it up again. It cranks and it smells rich in gasoline when you crank it a couple times. I checked the fuses and battery. Any help would be great.
