2002 honda accord battery charging issues?

I have a Honda accord 2002, 2.3, 4 cyl. It was wrecked within in the last few months on the front, passenger side. I have been having serious electrical issues and dumping money into it like its my job. The battery tests good. My alternator tests bad when it is in the vehicle, but when I took it out and tested it on the machine 3 times it tested good. My cables and terminals are good. I have a 1.55 amp drain, my alternator will not charge my battery, I have been told that the 2002 Honda accord has a computer controlled charging system, which I have been researching and can't find anything on this topic, although he said it could potentially be the problem and the cause of the drain. I can't afford a certified shop at this time. I have no idea what to do next, any help is appreciated.

When you test the alternator, it has to be tested in the car, with all the lights/accessories on, at 2500 rpm in order to get an accurate reading. It needs to be putting out enough amperage to charge the battery and registering the right voltage. Just because the alternator has the ability to test ok does not mean that it is ok.

You should have the vehicle scanned with a diagnostic computer, this will be able to find any faults with the computer controlled charging system. How did you have the alternator tested on the vehicle? Did you use a multimeter to check that it is outputting at least 13V DC (Direct Current) remember that a alternator will produce AC (Alternating Current) and a rectifier pack will convert this AC to DC otherwise if the rectifier pack fails then the alternator will output AC voltage which the battery will not except, if the alternator is putting out DC voltage then you may have a problem with the computer controlled side.

An ashtray light will draw 1.5 amps. That is really nothing. Autozone has that wiring diagram info. Register at autozone.com, put in your year, make, model & engine size, then click on repair info, chassis wiring, wiring diagrams, or just wiring diagrams.

A good electrical mechanic should remove each fuse, one at a time and test for a *parasitic amperage draw.

Well you have already dumped lots of money into this and you still have the problem. You would have been better off taking it to a professional shop in the first place. But 20/20 is hindsight. Check all the wiring going from the alternator to the battery. You have to find out why the alternator is not working in the vehicle. Are you sure it is hooked up correctly? The 1.55 amp drain sounds like a relay that is stuck closed. A light would not cause that much drain. Check all the relays. I would advise you not to throw any more money at it. If you are unable to repair it yourself, take it to a pro who will repair it.

  • I have a 1994 honda shadow vlx 600. I've been having charging issues? Could someone have put the positive and negative wires that connect to the battery on the wrong sides? All the batteries online look the same as this one and the cover on the bike only lets you slide it in one way (where the pos is on the right and the neg is on the left).
  • Bought a 1985 Honda inspector kid told me it needed new battery but started with jump got new battery and it was dead next day? Pretty sure its the alternator just wanted some second opinions also I got the bike for 600 dollars you guys think thats a good deal
  • Honda civic ima battery issues? Hiya, i'm looking forward to buy a hybrid car, quite like honda ima but been reading the reviews, sum r gud and sum r bad… Heard if battery dies it costs around £3000 to get fixed or replaced. • 2002 Honda Civic EX key fob issues? I recently purchased a 2002 Honda Civic EX and I can't get an aftermarket key fob programmed. I replaced the head unit last week (I still have the factory stereo) and I'm wondering if that would have an effect on it? The power locks on the doors do work, but I'm wondering what could be the cause of the key fob issues.
