Replace the timing belt and water pump as soon as you can. That 17 year old belt won't last much longer

It should say in your manual. You can also take a look at it, see if it has a bunch of horizontal lines on the inside, that indicates wear. You should probably change it now, just to be on the safe side.

Hi so time to consult with a Honda dealer.

The timing belt on a 2001 Accord has a replacement interval of 105,000 miles. Due to it's age however, I'd recommend replacing it now. A friend of mine had a low mileage 1999 Accord and less than a month ago, the timing belt broke at 74,000 miles. Like Bob P stated, get the full service done. They'll replace the water pump, your other belts, crank case and cam seals. They have to remove that stuff to get to the timing belt anyway, so you will save on the labor by getting it all done together. I should know. I made the mistake of getting the belt done years ago on a Civic I used to have. I didn't listen to the mechanic when he advised me to do it all at once. The water pump failed within six months of replacing the belt. Had to pay labor twice.
