I need car advice for buying?

I'm thinking about buying this 1992 honda accord for $700 he won't lower but maybe i can get it for 650 but it has 283k miles yes you heard me 283k miles… I heard hondas were great but when he was driving it (he made me nervous to drive it so i let him but i'm driving it tomorrow) it seemed to shift fine didn't have any knocks was a pretty quiet car he said he changed the oil every 3k miles and did simple maintenance on the car it ran pretty well and best of all its a 5 speed (manual) it has a bit of rust on the outside nothing to major just a little bit but, i'm wondering is this car worth buying? And what are some problems i should look for when i go to look at it tomorrow, thanks!

Added (1). I meant to say in the last part when i go to see the car again, yes i already seen it but i'm going back again.

Make sure the suspension is good… If it feels to soft (like a boat), or too bouncy
after a tiny bump… The shock absorbers are bad (Prices range from $200-1000
depending on what performance you go for etc.)

Most important of all:
Look around the engine head for any oil leaks… I usually just look at it real good
for any stains of something running down from the edges where it seals.
Look for oil on top of the control arms too… Sometimes that's where it ends up
before hittin the ground…

Look for any coolant leaks, around the radiator and radiator hoses…
I'm not sure, I can't remember clearly but I think if you touch around anu hoses
that been leaking, it feels sticky and nasty looking greenish or blueish stuff everywhere

Also, bushings should most likely be bad by now

Check how the engine is revving too… Just don't redline it but try to get close to redline…
while in N hit the gas pedal all the way and let it go before it redlines…
If it doesn't rev past about 4.5 or it makes weird sounds, something could be wrong

Ask when was the last FULL tune up performed… Spark plugs, alignment, etc…

Test the alternator using a volt meter…(youtube it)

Make sure every light is working properly (headlights, tail, brake, and signals, etc.)
You don't want any tickets… And sometimes old cars have wiring problems…
Burnt wiring, fuses, relays, or most likely rusty/corroded connections

If its petrol engine… Then you can buy it. And don't buy any second hand diesel cars…

Not sure if you already bought but be cautious. I run a auto salvage center, and I couldn't tell you how many people call in to sell their "junk car" that they just bought off a friend or someone a months prior. They say someone's trash is another mans treasure, but that couldn't be further from the truth in the auto industry, unless of course you are talking about vintage cars.

For $700, If you get 6 months out of it and it dies, you can sell it for scrap and be about even.

Its depend on your choice and budget so what you like go and buy it.

I like hero so you can also test it.

Its your decision bro, whatever you like just don't think and buy it

Have a mechanic inspect it - paying him for an hour of his time will either confirm that this is a great car, or give you written evidence of why he should lower the price, or why you should keep looking for something better. If the seller refuses to let you do this, then, well, there are lots more cars for sale out there.
For what it's worth, the '90-'93 Accords are very well-built and usually run until they get totaled in an accident. A stick shift is a great way to go - no automatic to eventually replace at a pretty high cost. It may still have a lot of miles still left in it.
If he has service receipts that show it's been well maintained, that goes a long way. If it's been garage kept, that matters, too.
But unless you know how to evaluate it mechanically yourself, get it checked out - especially if it's your first car.

The car is definitely worth buying, if it runs. What do you want for 700$? My guess is, it will run for 6 months or a year and then need a serious repair, but heck it may last 10 years. But if it does? You can sell it to a junk yard for scrap for 300$ and have gotten use of a car for much less than $100 a month, not a bad deal. Go for it.

Hondas are excellent but 283k miles is probably past its reliable life.

  • I have an eye on a few bikes, just not sure so I need some advice? My first VEHICLE was a Ninja Kawasaki 500r. I've been riding that since I was 16 and i'm now 20, so for four years. I've been looking at both a Ninja Kawasaki ZX -6r and a -10r. also looking at a Honda CBR1000RR. If you have any suggestions please comment. P.S. I'm looking for a brand new Motorcycle, I put way too much money into my current bike for what it's worth.
  • I need advice of driving up and down mountains for the first time? So I'm going on a tip to big bear this Friday and i need a little advice because it's my first time. I'm think of either taking a new 2014 hybrid honda insight or a 2006 Nissan Altima. My Nissan. Front brakes have been changed almost two weeks ago but I didn't change the backs. • I need some advice on a horse trailer situation? My dad has just bought a Honda CR-V. It can tow up to 2 tonnes. We're looking to buy a horse trailer but we're not sure about whether to get a single or double trailer. Could our car tow a double trailer with 2 15hh horses in it? Or if needs be, we would get a single one as we only have 1 horse anyway, but a double one would be more suitable but we don't mind.
  • Buying my first car and want to choose the right car I need something with a lot of room and thats safe? I've been looking at the honda crv, kia sorento, chevy traverse/equinox, acura mdx/rdx, nissan maxima and buick enclave. I really want something thats going to last atleast (6-8) years without having to replace the transmission or engine I want something very reliable and i'm willing to pay more for something that will last than having to replace major parts in a short time thanks for your help!
