Question about repairs on a 04 honda accord?

I'm looking at a 2004 honda for 200 dollars, don't know anything about cars. He said this is what's wrong with it Had this car sitting for afew after something in the transmission went out (scaner says its a sensor) just don't have time or money to fix it, will need to be towed because the clutch isn't engageing needs 2 rear tires the sensor battery and (soon to need) a power steering pump this price isn't firm and just need the extra cash title is also clean " thats the description.
I was just wondering how much this would cost to fix all this.

Don't believe him. It probably has a lot more and a lot worse problems than that. A decent running and cosmetically decent 04 Accord still sells for around $4000, so the car probably has very serious issues. The rebuild cost of an Accord transmission can easily cost $1500 to $3000. Replacement from a junkyard will exceed $500 plus installation cost. If you could afford that, and the engine runs, it doesn't smoke or overheat, the compression is good and the car has a clean title with his name on it and no liens then maybe I'd think about it. If it is junk, you wouldn't get more than $200 for it at a junk ward, and that's after paying $150 in towing to get it there. Don't be stupid.

A seller will often just tell you what he or she thinks you want to hear.

There's a reason why it's only $200… That's all it is worth. But if you really want to take a chance, buy it, get it towed to a trusted dealer or shop, pay for them to diagnose it, and then decide if you want to spend the thousands it will cost to get it road legal or if you want to tow it to the nearest scrap yard and maybe get your original $200 back for it ( but you would still lose a few hundred for the towing and shop diagnosis ).

Only automatics have sensors that effect the tranny.
Because you state it has a clutch it's a manual transmission. If the vehicle won't move with the motor running the clutch is fried. You're looking at a good $1500.

This car is certain to have WAY more problems than the seller says it has. It would be cheaper and a lot fewer headaches to buy a car that actually runs.

I'd budget at least $2,750 if you can do 75% of the work yourself. How many transmissions have you swapped out in the past? If it needs rear tires, front are likely shot as well. Also, might as well do belts, water pump, timing belt, ball joints, tie rod ends, bushings, all fluids, plus brakes.

Pay 200 and part it out on ebay, sell the rest for scrap

More than the car is worth! It a gamble unless you are a competent mechanic looking for a project!

The price of all the fixes you're going to pay--you might as well just get a WORKING car. It costs the same.

  • Simple repairs to make car fast again? 1986 Honda prelude, carbourated, 5 speed. My friend had it a while ago and he said it was very fast when he originally had it, about a year ago. When I drive it it seems to have very little power, it accelerates really really slow. I was wondering if there's any simple repairs I can do to make it a little faster besides a tune up?

  • I've got a Honda Motorcycle question? I picked up a really cool 1979 Honda CM400t recently but found that it aint got spark, it has a kickstart and I got ahold of a manual for it and was reading that it doesn't have a magneto. Would my motorcycle with a CDI need battery for spark? EVEN with a kickstart? I had just always thought you didn't need a battery for kickstart, but it has electric start too. Any answer appreciated! I will be picking up a battery on Friday by the way!
