What does it mean when the battery light comes on an the car is harder to steer?

04 honda accord.

only problem is the electric system.
i mean, i have to punch the left headlight to turn it on.

but today during the rain, i saw the battery light turn on and then when i made a left turn, the steering wheel was harder to turn.
like something was stuck between the wheel or something. But then the wheel was back to normal like nothing happened.
i remember hearing noises like a whimpering dog in pain. But no dog.
maybe something broke?

i don't have power steering.

Either the serpentine belt is loose or it got broken and now you don't have PS and alt, both work with the same belt.

Either your drive/serpentine belt is failing or your alternator. Or both.

Belt is slipping. You do have power steering.

Accessory drive belt powers both the alternator and the power steering pump. If this is loose / worn / slipping, then both those things stop working.

It means the CHARGING system is failing. It also means you DO have power steering, which is also failing. It is likely both are failing because the drive belt is slipping.

Note: I doubt you were alive the last time they built cars without power steering. Most senior citizens don't ask this kind of question.

POWER WASH your ENGINE BAY to SHOWROOM CLEAN with GUNK ORANGE at a diy car wash! YOUR BELTS are slipping or you need NEW SERPENTINE BELT and PULLEYS installed! OIL can leak onto them and they will SLIP! RAIN going into your engine bay can cause ISSUES as it tries to remove JUNK from the belt system! WHEN BATTERY LIGHT and STEERING is difficult, it is All about BELT and PULLEYS! GUNK removes all the years of ROAD SALT and LEAKY FLUIDS from engine bay QUICKLY!
