1998 Honda Civic EX Manual won't Crank When it's Hot Outside?

My car starts fine in the morning when I turn it on and go to work. Then it sits outside in the sun all day from the morning till around 5 or 6.

When I go to start my car after work, if it was over ~80F outside that day, my car won't start. My engine hasn't been running, so it's not necessarily related to an overheated engine because once it starts it runs fine and it's starting from a cool engine. But the ambient temperature heat is enough to cause the starting issue. When I turn the key the radio, lights, etc. All get power. But when I turn the key to crank the car nothing happens. No noise at all. So it's not even trying to crank.

Usually I have to wait about 60 seconds and then try again a few times and it will start.

About three months ago I had my starter and distributor replaced, and had my battery replaced about a year ago. I thought it may be a defective clutch switch, which tells my car the clutch is pushed in so it will start. But I think I've ruled that out by compressing the clutch, trying to start, nothing happens, keep the clutch pushed in and wait, try again and it starts.

Seems like it could be an electrical issue with some wiring when they installed my new starter and distributor? Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Have you checked the clutch switch at the clutch pedal? Make sure the vehicle is in Nuetral, engage the parking brake then remove the two wires from the clutch switch and touch the wires together and see if it crank. If it does, the clutch switch is defected.

The two most notoriously failures for your Honda in the same era were the Ignition switch and the Main relay. See the videos how to check and repair:

For diagnosing no start:

For the Ignition switch (This video is for Accord but you'll get a general idea)

Check and replace Main relay:
