1998 Honda Civic LX with 118,000 k at $1200 a good buy?

I'm meeting with a guy who is selling his 1998 Honda Civic LX for $1200 he claims that he kept the car up mechanical wise and has recips. Is these a good deal or shoul I offer him less money?

If it runs and drives, $1200 is a fair price.

"he claims that he kept the car up mechanical wise and has (receipts) recips."

Can he proof it? If so, look them over carefully to make sure essential services have been maintained. If they have it has potential.

What did your mechanic say after the inspection? That's all that matters.

If I were in the market I'd pay it. That's low miles for one of the best and longest lasting generation of Honda's

You always look at the tires and brakes, check the color and level of the oil on the dipstick first. Then ask if he had the valves adjusted lately because all Honda's have a common problem with tight valves and need a adjusting every 60,000 miles. Knock off $200 if the brake pads are too thin, $500 for tires and $150 to get the valves adjusted. You always offer less then the asking price.

This is a great price for this car if it is in good condition. Know that the cam belt and water pump should have been replaced at 105,000 miles. Unless you know 100% that this was done expect to spend from $500 to $900 for this repair. If the belt breaks there will be serious engine damage. http://www.nadaguides.com/Cars/1998/Honda/Civic-4-Cyl/Sedan-4D-LX/Values

  • Would you purchase a 2004 Honda pilot for $6,000.000 that has 216,000 miles on it? I'm just browsing online looking at cars for sale and a lot of them have 200k or more miles on them and they want $4,000 or more. Why do people sale their cars for such a high price with a lot of miles on them? Its not just Hondas its all types of cars private and dealers as well
  • Bike guys. 92 Honda Shadow. 22,000 miles. Asking $1200. Good deal or not? I'm totally new to street bikes, although I've ridden dirtbikes a lot. Just looking for any insights on the bike itself (I've heard they're fun and reliable) and thoughts on the pricing. I'm not looking for websites or anything, I've already done some research. I'm looking for actual experience.
  • Is it a good idea to go from a 125cc to a 1200 ducati? I've been riding a Honda 125cc for 3 weeks now and almost getting used to it. Just got my license and i'm thinking about getting this used ducati 1200cc.
  • A 2008 Honda CBR600RR w/ 20,000 Miles. Good buy? They are asking $6,700 for it. Assuming that the pre-purchase inspection goes well obviously. I won't be selling the bike for any reason unless I'm forced to sell it. I would change the fairings, exhaust, get new tires and am willing to repair it if anything goes wrong that can be fixed. Any thoughts from you guys? All answers appreciated, but try to keep it serious. Thanks! Also, I went to check for a VIN number but they put the stock number instead… Worth checking it anyways?
