2001 honda civic driving up to the mountains. Will 91 octane gas

2001 honda civic driving up to the mountains. Will 91 octane gas help?

Possibly you can try it and see what happens

Your Honda is designed to use 86-octane gasoline. 91-octane gasoline has slightly less energy than 86-octane gasoline. 91-octane gasoline will give you less power, and will cost more.

My '72 Pinto 2.0, 86 hp / 103 lb-ft, went up The Grapevine it top gear at 70 mph. I went with it camping in the Sierras. No problem!

Honda claims your Civic has 115 hp / 110 ft-lbs -- considerably more power. If you have any problem driving in the mountains it is because (1) you don't know how to drive properly and/or (2) Honda lies about how good their vehicles are. Probably the latter.

Many modern Fuel Injected vehicles are designed to get by on 87 octane fuel by changing ignition timing if detonation is detected. This will reduce the fuel economy. I have no doubt that you should have no problems driving in the mountains you will experience loss of power because at altitude there's less O2 in the atmosphere which means that you engine in takes less oxygen which will reduce the amount of power. Burning Premium fuel will help if your engine has preignition problems under load.

Your 2001 Honda Civic is neither a premium required or premium recommended automobile. The use of any gasoline than 87 octane will not give you more or improved performance or fuel economy. It would simply be a waste of cash.

It burns regular, stay with it. Now if it is really cold up there, then 91 could be a help in starting. Other wise use what you normally use!

No. It's a waste of money if the car doesn't require Premium gasoline. Your vehicle runs the best on 87 octane.
