Am I putting stress my transmission?

I drive a honda civic 08 with an engine code on it right now (p0776) for a solenoid B that's stuck off. It is an automatic transmission. It won't go into 2nd gear when I put it in drive, it just slips and refuses to drive anymore. I have only driven it twice since that has happened, but have recently discovered a method to get it to go so I can move it

If I put the car in 1 on the shifter, let it get up to 20 miles per hour, then shift it to D3, it skips second gear, goes straight to 3 and I can put it back in drive and drive normally until the solenoid comes in the mail to replace the bad one. There's not jerking and not weird noises, it transitions smoothly. But I do fear I may put damage on the transmission and I want to avoid that until the part comes in. Do you guys think this is a wise idea or am I making the situation worse?

See a mechanic and get your car FIXED. The solenoid could be bad or it is an electrical issue. Skipping a gear will WORSEN your problem. You are making the transmission work beyond its design limits.

You're OK as long as you don't let the transmission SLIP. That's when the engine revs and the car doesn't go any faster… That causes excess heat. Change the Filter while you're there. Be sure to use the right ATF., the spec is DM1 or Model H. If the parts store says they don't have that fluid but have an Additive… Buy the Additive and add it to the fluid you bought. It's a Friction Modifier. ATP AT203 is one of them.

When an automatic slips in a gear it wears out the clutch discs for that gear with in a mile.
I would have purchased that solenoid from the dealer immediately the moment the CEL lit and had the code read.

Probably not a big danger just trying to make the shift to second and releasing first gear therefore not really "slipping" just failing to catch second and disengaged.

The skipping gears can cause extra wear on the other gears.

Should be Ok
