Do I need to replace my car starter?

Hi, I need expert advice on my cars problem. I have a Honda Civic LXI 1996. I recently had its starter repaired. The problem now is that it always drains my battery. I did a test where in i disconnect my battery if I'm not using it. It works that way. But when I have the battery connected, even if I'm not using my car the battery is drained after a few days? What should I do?

You should take your car into a place where they can test your ALTERNATOR and see if it is leaking backwards. Diodes can become defective, and so will allow current to flow backwards, when the car is NOT running, and so can drain a battery overnight.

I don't know how the starter can drain the battery, unless somehow the solenoid is wired up wrong, but then it probably would not start. A hot wire from the ignition usually goes to the solenoid, to cause it to close and this then allows current to flow to the starter, thus spinning it. Once the key is released, the solenoid opens, which stops the flow of current to the starter.

I suspect a leak in your alternator, but it could also be ANY circuit that is hot, when the key is OFF. Dome lights, for example. These are always hot, so that the light comes on when you open the door. Brake lights, also. And radio, sometimes. (some will be on even with the key on, some will not)

So if the Alternator does not show a short, it could be any circuit. With a voltmeter/amp meter tester You can then start removing fuses, one at a time, and hopefully see when the current stops flowing.

Google "How to test for automotive current leaks". Which will show you how to look for leaks.
I think it is your alternator, though.
