Has anyone ever purchased a salvage titled vehicle?

I found a 2008 Honda Civic hybrid for $5,200 by a private seller. It has 135k miles which I know is a lot for a 2008 but Hondas are known for their reliability. I had it checked out by a mechanic and all seems to be well. I won't have any problems insuring it, I just want to make sure that I'm not throwing my money away. This will be my first car by the way and I'm not interested in financing any newer Civics. I just want a car that I can use for about half a decade or so.

Added (1). I checked the VIN and it was rear ended (photos were included of the damage before the repairs).

Added (2). Okay, I did an official report on the VIN and turns out that it's not a salvaged title after all!

Get the VIN and find out WHY it is a salvage title. My son bought a 1988 (?) dodge stealth for, like, $800. It was a salvage title. It lacked the turbo charger(?) and had the right front quarter panel destroyed. It has an old trip computer that works and is funny. (it talks) and it was the first all wheel drive in the U S according to my son. It's beautiful now. Bright red with black leather seats, 5 on the floor and a joy to drive., I'm just saying, be cautious.

Not a lot of miles for a 08 model. Stay away from salvage titled cars that 5200 is to much for a salvage titled car. For that price you can find a clean titled car

Since you had it checked by a good mechanic, and he found no problems, you should be good to go. Be sure to look at the actual title to see if it has a salvage indication. If the car has been repaired properly and checks out with your mechanic, it's not a problem except for the fact that a salvage title reduces the price of the car, when you buy it and when you sell it in the future.
