How much should a 05 Civic engine swap cost? Am I getting ripped off?
I purchased a 2005 Honda Civic (non VTEC) with a blown engine. I don't have much money available so I asked my friends dad to install it an engine for me for a lower price. He said he could do it for $800 for me and it would take about 3 days. (great I thought) I purchased an engine for $600 which ended up having a blown piston and having to file a small claims complaint with the person I bought it from. So I bought another engine for $450 and dropped it off at my friends dad s shop. After about a month he called me up to tell me that the car is done and my total cost is $1700! WTF?! $850 for labor but then another $700+ in parts that he never even called to tell me the car needed?! If this is the average cost of a swap and parts (engine mount, belts, oil change, plugs, gaskets) and nothing else major I wouldn t mind eating the bullet. But I feel like I'm getting ripped off. And to make it harder still he s my friends dad. Can anyone shed some light on the avg. Price or offer advice?
Yup that sounds about right… Going the cheap way often costs more
You should have gotten a written estimate with an instruction to call you if it looks like it will go over the estimate.
What were the extra parts he used?
- How much does an h22 swap cost into a 1992 prelude? I have a 1992 honda preldue with a f22 non vtec engine and i belive it has a blown head gasket, and i was considering an h22 vtec swap for it, does anyone know how much would that cost? Or what other vtec engine would be good for my prelude?
- Can a 16.L engine fit into a 1998 Honda Civic LX? (before doing engine swap)? I had an blown motor on my 1998 Honda Civic LX, I have new spark plugs, distributor cap and some other items, however, since the old spark plugs happened to be melted as well, I have no option other to do a engine swap. I've been doing some research, and it seems like I only have the 1.6L engine as a option. By the way, the blown motor is a D16Y8, and is automatic.
- What engines can I directly swap my D16y8 Honda motor for? It has to be more powerful and easy to swap? I have a civic with a d16y8 and its served me well but what motor could I easily swap in? I want to use the same gearbox but I don't mind swaping the ECU. The easier the swap and the more HP the better. Would prefer to use the stock manifold and intake etc.
- Howmuch would an engine swap cost if they are already replacing the clutch? I need to get my clutch replaced and considering putting a b16 into my 98 honda civic. So i was wondering since i've heard they have to drop the engine to replace the clutch since it's FWD howmuch extra effort (in cost) would it be to swap the engine.
