How to change fluid in a 2003 Honda civic transmission?
Remove drain plug, drain fluid completely. Reinstall drain plug, remove fill plug, use fluid pump to fill up transmission, keep pumping until it over-flows indicating its full, then replace fill plug.
Some people prefer filling up using the transmission dipstick hole.
Suppose to be drain, fill, drive. Drain, fill, drive. Drain, fill, drive to get most of the old out. To me once is good enough; just do it every 60k instead of 100k.
Manual or auto?
Pull the drain plug out and capture what oil comes out of the trans. Then reinstall the plug and put in the exact amount of new fluid you just drained out, Do not overfill. Pretty simple and all should be well. Just did this with my 2000 Prelude earlier this summer as well as my 2001 Civic.
