How to do non vtec to vtec conversion?

Ok so my question is how can I do a non vtec to vtec conversion? I have a 97 honda civic dx, it has a d16y7 non vtec engine in it. I know it's sad lol but I want to do a vtec conversion, I've heard that I can because of the d16y8 that's originally in the ex model, here's the thing, I've done some research and all I've scrapped so far is that because of the d16y8 head being vtec I can take it from an ex model and stick onto my engine block and remove the y7 and then I'd have the vtec head but I'd also have to replace my ecu component, which I'm still a noob about that and wth it does o.O but I just need to ask the public, no stupid answers please, I need a step by step instruction on how to do it, I'd really appreciate it, thank you for taking out the time to read my question, have a good day.

Swap in a Honda b series engine in it its actually pretty easy. I'm assuming you know how to do swaps so, you can buy a vtec motor on ebay for $2g and will probably run you to $5g on everything (tranny of course), overall I think a b16 or b18 engine will do don't go for sohc engines, they're plain slow. If you want to go extreme swap in a k20.

@Robert: For the conversion: The link I've provided to you last week (Your last question) containing the Honda engine swap manual and the FSM for your Honda and the download now can be only d/l by P2P (Torrents) only, but it's still doable. Send me your E mail because for an unknown reason I could not send a message to you while given you my E mail address. I need your E mail address for better communication and sending the information you'll need.

You can buy another great civic with the v-tech in it for cheaper.

Why not just throw a new cam in?

There are some regrind options.

Let me answer your question with a question, This is how you sound and pointless of an action, How can I convert a V6 into a V8? I say this because you need camshafts, head, valves, manifold, VTEC solenoids, ECU, and how are you going to time the VTEC switchover? It's just stupid. Do a swap instead buying a new engine and selling the one you have

  • Switch to non vtec without an ecu change? I have a 97 honda civic ex vtec with a d16y8 motor that's blown. I want to replace it with a d16y7 that doesn't have vtec since it's cheaper and I hardly use it to go fast anyways. I read everywhere that it won't accelerate past 5000 rpm's if the ecu isn't switched and it will also cause a check engine light. I was wondering if there was an easy way to not have to switch the ecu but not have those problems caused.
  • Is it safe to drive my honda civic non stop everyday? My job requires me to drive 8hrs a day, then a co worker would take over and drive another 8hrs a day. In total the car would be driven 16 hrs a day all on the highway. Close to 1600kms a day. Is this going to destroy the car? I keep up with maintanace too.
  • Honda Civic 1992 hatchback awd conversion? I'm 16 years old, I own a Honda Civic 1992 hatchback, it currently has a d15b7 motor. I'm about to start working a part time with my father and I'm very interested in converting my Honda into an awd, I know it's expensive but I want to do it step by step. So I would like a list of what I need to make this possible.
