Is celebrating the 2 year anniversary of owning a car necessary?

Me and my friend are 20 years old and he bought a car when he was around 18. This week he wants to celebrate buying his 2015 Honda Civic in 2017 Jan for roughly $18000 with 15 000 Km on it at the time.

he tells me "not everyone can keep a car", he was showboating about paying bills like gas, car insurance, car payments, maintenance etc…

the only thing his parents did was co sign and put a $2000 down payment other than that he is stuck making $191 bi-weekly payments till 2022.

Dumbest thing I have read today. He financed a used car for SIX YEARS?! Wow!

Not necessary, but could be fun. I knew a fellow who had a party to celebrate that it was Tuesday again.

Your friend is weird no offense

No, but if he wants to, what does it have to do with you?

S0 - I sing Happy Birthday to mine every time it flips 1000 miles. I've pu4 134,000 on it with no repairs - just good maintenance - so being nice to it must work!

Let him be happy.

Why Not? Any excuse for a party.

I recall getting my first car And getting my license back., Both felt Great., My celebration was renting a Fiesta 3 days, gong to Tombstone and Old Tucson, then the Lost Dutchman mine with my dog.

I forgot what a car was, but sure

Not necessary. Maybe he feels like being underetimated and wants to frame himself as a rich person.

  • Is owning an apple product a status symbol? Some of the people I've talked to compare iphones, macs, ipads etc as a mercedes benz or lexus. They described android or PCs etc as a honda or toyota They said driving a luxury car is a status symbol. The cars are nice yet driving a honda or toyota does the same stuff but without breaking the bank. What do you think?
  • Is it normal for someone to still drive a 20-year-old car? I still see dozens of 20-year-old Hondas and Toyotas every day. Is it a Japanese car thing to last that long or is it normal? I want to get a 20-year-old car soon.
  • Do you think extended warranty is necessary on new cars? A relative just bought a $40k Honda SUV and is seriously thinking about getting a 7 year/100,000 miles power-train warranty. Do you think he should since it's just $500? Or is it just flushing money down the drain since if you can't trust a new Honda to go 100k miles who can you trust?
  • Which car should i buy to sell in a year? I'm in need of a car for only a year, but i'm a colllege student so I won't put on too many miles. I plan on buying a vehicle in the next few days and then selling it next may. My budget is 4000 and these are my top 4 choices i have found so far. Which one is the best for resale value and reliability? 1. 2006 Nissan Altima with 118k at 4000$ 2. 2003 Hyundai Tiburon with 80k at 3000$ 3. 2004 Honda Civic EX with 110k at $4000 4. 2005 Chevy Cobalt with 62k at $4000
