Is owning an apple product a status symbol?
Some of the people I've talked to compare iphones, macs, ipads etc as a mercedes benz or lexus. They described android or PCs etc as a honda or toyota
They said driving a luxury car is a status symbol. The cars are nice yet
driving a honda or toyota does the same stuff but without breaking the bank.
What do you think?
I've never thought of it that was but it makes sense, considering the price tag difference. When I was finishing university in 2012, I felt a sudden need to replace my Dell laptop with a Macbook to stay on trend on campus.
Amongst Wall Street investment bankers, no. Private jets are a status symbol.
Amongst 7th graders, absolutely. Some 7th graders don't have a phone at all yet, and amongst most that do, it'll be cheaper and not as nice. 7th graders are impressed by an iPhone.
When you're a billionaire, a $20 flip phone is a status symbol. All that means is that you have a cadre of personal assistants that do anything (and more) that a smart phone might do for "regular" people. NOT having a smart phone is the status symbol amongst that crowd.
Status symbols are always relative to the crowd you run with.

This week he wants to celebrate buying his 2015 Honda Civic in 2017 Jan for roughly $18000 with 15 000 Km on it at the time. he tells me "not everyone can keep a car", he was showboating about paying bills like gas, car insurance, car payments, maintenance etc… the only thing his parents did was co sign and put a $2000 down payment other than that he is stuck making $191 bi-weekly payments till 2022.
- If I can have Apple CarPlay in a car without installation? I really want Apple CarPlay in my 2018 Honda Civic, but I'm leasing it and I can't modify the car. I only have the base model (lx) so it has a Bluetooth radio that is not touch screen, so I could not use a "dongle". I'm wondering if anyone knows if I can have an external monitor on my dash or something that is powered by usb? I just really want Apple CarPlay.
