Is it a good idea to buy a used Honda Civic with 125,000 miles? Advice?
It's on Craigslist. I've talked to the seller, and he says it's clean, spacious, runs like new, has a clean title, and is in excellent condition. 125k miles is not very many miles for a car that was built over 13 years ago. He wants to sell it for $4300, which is above the Kelly Blue Book value of $3600-$3800. I would like to pay no more than market price for it (preferably less).
I plan to test drive it and possibly have it inspected before purchasing, but I also do not want to pay above Blue Book value for it.
Any advice/suggestions about whether this would be a good investment? How long will a Honda Civic last me? And how could I haggle him down?
Added (1). Forgot to mention:
It's a 2001 Honda Civic LX.
The mileage is actually low. The usual is 12000 miles per year. If it was properly maintained it could last at least 300k miles. Hondas are know for their reliable engines.
At the age & miles, asks if the timing belt/water pump has been replaced. This is usually recommended to be done at 7 years or around 100k miles.
Yes, it is a very good idea to get It inspected by a mechanic.
Let the seller know that his price is higher than fair market value. You can also try to point out if the timing belt/water pump service has not been done yet. Or try to see if there are other flaws you can see in the car, like dents, or worn out tires, needs paint etc.
There's just no guarantee that they will lower their price. If they don't, then you can also look somewhere else.
Ask your mechanic after he looks at it.
- Would you purchase a 2004 Honda pilot for $6,000.000 that has 216,000 miles on it? I'm just browsing online looking at cars for sale and a lot of them have 200k or more miles on them and they want $4,000 or more. Why do people sale their cars for such a high price with a lot of miles on them? Its not just Hondas its all types of cars private and dealers as well
- A 2008 Honda CBR600RR w/ 20,000 Miles. Good buy? They are asking $6,700 for it. Assuming that the pre-purchase inspection goes well obviously. I won't be selling the bike for any reason unless I'm forced to sell it. I would change the fairings, exhaust, get new tires and am willing to repair it if anything goes wrong that can be fixed. Any thoughts from you guys? All answers appreciated, but try to keep it serious. Thanks! Also, I went to check for a VIN number but they put the stock number instead… Worth checking it anyways?
- 2008 Honda Fit with 66,000 miles on it for $5,000? Is this a good deal? I need to buy a new car and today I got an offer on a 2008 Honda Fit with 66,000 miles on it for $5,000. I'm a 19 year old girl and I know nothing about cars D: Are Honda Fits good cars? Should I buy this with so many miles already on it? Also, I like to travel. Will this car be safe to drive long distances?
- Used 2012 Honda Civic Coupe with 60,000 miles. Is it ok to buy? I'm looking at a Certified Pre-owned Honda Civic Coupe. It's 2012 with 60k miles on it and Carfax said it averaged 22k miles per year. No accidents reported and only one owner. The price is good is $14,000 right now and I'll probably negotiate it down. The main question: Is 60k too much on a 2.5 year old vehicle? Even if it's CPO?
